maybe once the price drops ill get one.. an also time for it to go on a shake down cruise since it will probably be a peice of crap jus like the initial PS2's where when they came out.. IE FUCKING DISC READ ERRORS THAT THEY MADE US PAY TO FIX WHEN IT WAS THEIR SHODDY WORK THAT CAUSED THE ISSUE!

Yeah I have one of the flat itty bitty PS2's and its tradeable at Best Buy towards a PS3 which is rockn good news.

I'm not so hot on it, myself. Partially because I've learned never to trust in Sony.
They said the tech demo for the PS2 (at the E3 where it was shown so long ago) which was a super-hi-res version of the dance scene from FFVIII (provided and engineered by Square, not Sony), was how games would look. Not just the movies, mind you -- they said all games would look like that, even during regular gameplay. Look at how things have turned out.
Yes, lots of PS2 games have great visuals. However, a lot of them have absolutely horrid gameplay. On top of that, Sony itself can't even make a game that's up to the graphical standard they claim to have set. After all, just look at God of War -- while it's a very enjoyable game and one I'm happy to say I beat, the only model in the game that looks like they spent any effort on at all is Kratos. Every other character except for the Hydra has a PS1-quality model; blocky, poorly textured, glowmaps haphazardly thrown around to make things look pretty. One could make the argument that they were trying to get better gameplay by sacrificing graphics, but given Sony's reputation for failing to deliver on promises, this just doesn't hold up.

Pair that with the fact that they're now saying that it will be far too expensive to produce the Cell processor that they wanted to use for the PS3, and you have yet another huge disappointment. (For reference, the Cell processor's pricetag per produced unit is about $675, when last we checked.)
Unless Sony sold the PS3 at $650 per unit, they'd go bankrupt after their first shipment. We had a really, really long discussion about this at work, between the other sales guy, myself, and the assistant manager, who knows more about games and the industry than both myself and the other sales guy combined. It's likely that if they do still use the Cell processor, they'll dumb it down so much that it won't be anything special, and that was their ace in the hole.

Sony can't deliver on shit. Pair that with the fact that they can't even make the dual-shock controllers anymore (which were excellent controllers) and everything about the PS3 is starting to look sub-standard.

nah, read it all, an its yet another reason while i will wait for it for awhile besides hopin the price will go down.. haha that an if their is some defect i really dont wanna hafta shell outhalf the units price to get it taking care of

Yeah, I'm with you on that. If I do get it, I'll wait until a second generation comes out, without all the problems that the first will undoubtedly have. Realistically, Sony's never had a smooth first launch -- the PS1 lenses going off-track and burning out the motors, the PS2's disc read errors and inability to read Sony's own BluRay disc encoding (plus the fact that playing DVDs on a first- or second-generation PS2 killed the system), the PSP's severe lack of stateside games, battery life and dead pixels...
I'll wait until the second generation of PS3 comes out, when the price drops and they know what they're doing. I do want to play Devil May Cry 4, after all.

lol, I've only rented one system, and that was the Dreamcast. I just had to play it that badly, I was so psyched for it. The great thing about the Dreamcast was that Sega delivered majorly on it -- they didn't really exaggerate what the machine could do, they just made the games and gave you an honest sale approach. I still have mine, along with all the games I had for it. Very, very good system in my opinion. I honestly think that if Sega hadn't dropped out of the race, they would have given everyone a real run for their money.

Now they've reduced themselves to cloning Ratchet & Clank, only with Sonic and Shadow. ~_~ How low the mighty have fallen.
