waaaaaaay back on page 5, I was being sarcastic about it being socially unacceptable not to reproduce... I don't support those views, but they do dominate societies. If you look at trends of acceptable homosexuality, societies that accept it more have large populations, whereas populations that lynch/burn/torture homosexuals for being homosexual are ones that are smaller or in a time of crisis. Something that our particular society is struggling with is the ingrained notion of having to reproduce to be socially acceptable. On the one hand, our population is far too big. On the other hand we have many social and cultural forces telling us that we must reproduce (as well as natural forces). The way I see things, our whole society is in flux. As Chaucey said, marriages are falling apart a lot. I agree with Tarick about the major reason (it's socially acceptable now) but would add that people don't know how to keep a marriage together, or even why marriages were able to last so long in the past. Yes, a lot of it was society. But another huge part was that marriage has not been based on love. Historically it is a social contract of two people who usually didn't know each other, to live together and make children, and take care of a set of aging parents. Passion was something that societies have looked down upon (particularly in women), and passionate love as a basis for a marriage was seen as particularly dangerous because it is so unstable. It was not until the 1800s when the idea of marrying for love became something that everyone should do. Now we have this romantic idea of what love and marriage are. I'm not saying this to bash romance, cause I like romance. But people (particularly girls) seems to have this silly frilly idea of what love and marriage are, with all these hearts and candle-light dinners and silk sheets. But then other things like, dishes and laundry, intrude upon their ideal and they have a nervous breakdown. (I don't like silly frilly girls... can you tell?) And suddenly he's trying to control her and he's seeing other women and sleeping with every girl in their building and every time he smiles at anything female that means he's sleeping with it. (I really don't like females who act this way... they watch way too many soap operas) Ya anyway... don't know where I'm going with this... it's turned into a rant against dumb girls who give all women a bad name... bitches

Aidar and I met online too. He came to visit me the day after Valentine's day in 2003. (He lived in NJ and I lived 3 hours away in Brooklyn NY.) Late April of tha year he was sent to Missouri for two months for training. We spoke almost every night on the phone and I visited him twice. He came home in June and I moved in with him the weekend of July 4th. We were married that November and have been happily married ever since.
He likes to say that we are totally different people with everything in common. Whatever the case may be, it works. And I never thought I could be with a soldier - I even told him that on our first date.
We have both become different people than we were when we got married. It's hard to remain the same as years pass and circumstances change. The question is whether or not you are willing to learn about the new person you find yourself with and fall in love with them all over again.
Case in point: When I visited him in Missouri we stayed with married friends of his. The husband was on the computer playing video games almost the whole time we were there. I told Aidar that if he ever did that to me I would leave him because I couldn't imagine being married to someone who would rather play video games than spend time with me. Now look at us.... He got me hooked on the game and when I don't feel like playing and he does, I make a huge pile of pillows on the floor next to his computer desk and settle in with a good book.
As to the divorce issue...it is more socially acceptable now. A lot of people don't believe in soul mates anymore or they convince themselves that they have found theirs when in fact they are settling. People are always looking for something better. Adultery is rampant in the military community. It's hard to believe that while soldiers are deployed, risking their lives to defend the freedom of their nation and the safety of their families, that their spouses are living it up with someone else - but it happens A LOT. When it comes to the military I always tell people that some women (and male civilians as well) love the idea of being married to a soldier more than they are in love with the soldier they are married to. The same can be said for the civilian community. People want to be married. They want to get their families off their backs, they want financial security, they want kids, health insurance, a trophy wife/husband, etc. There are a million WRONG reasons to get married and thus a lot of divorces. What is the right reason? I don't know. That is unique to each successful couple.

Sadly, that hits me hard... I'll never forget my sister calling me, telling me she cheated on her husband (no sex, though...I'd have killed her). I honestly had a large amount of respect and pride in her, because of things that happened in our past. In an instant, that plummeted. I understand loneliness. I've been single for a while now. But cheating only goes to show how much you don't love your spouse. It goes to show the little amount of respect, trust, and communication the relationship has. I don't think I will ever understand divorce. Like Isabo said, marriage is about growing and learning and falling back in love with the person your spouse becomes. Even friendships are like that...everyone changes...and yet people remain friends for years and years. Marriage shouldn't be any different. More women fall to the statistic then men. I hear all the time.."I can't wait to meet Mr. Rich..not Mr. Right"I hate women like that...they give the rest of us a bad name =/

I've been in horrible relationships, that had none of these traits, and i've never cheated. Ever. I think i'm of a minority, guys that have never cheated. Been accused of it many times, but never have. had the opportunjity, never could fathom it, personally. So its not just the relationship, its the type of person too. I may be an asshole, but thats one point of security Angel can have. And that kind of security, I personally hold very highly. _Code

Facts about society in general:
1- Money is more important then anything 2- Men have never had any morals. Women just finished catching up.
Why is it that.....
1- When men cheat its a big fucking deal. But when woman cheat its because there man wasnt taking care of his womans needs... 2- When you tell a girl that you have been dating the same girl for a year+ she suddenly wants to fuck, suck and have your baby. Meanwhile when your are single you gotta bust your ass, spend your cash and all your time just to get to know a girl... 3- Babies are making babies... 4- Woman are liberated but men are still expected to play the 'traditional' role in the relationship...
W/e. It is all fucked up. No one is sincere. Everyone has alterior motives. For anyone who has found true love, Congratulations! Enjoy while it lasts because true love has an expiration date. It is no longer eternal. It is no longer pure. It is swayed by lust and greed.
Divorce is a common, acceptable way of resolving a family's problems. 'Till death do us part... My ass. More like 'till the dude with the Benz shows up on the scene' Or how about 'Til we have kids and shit gets rough and I no longer want any part of this'... WTf did you think having babies and a family was going to be a cakewalk? Nwsflash, its hard for anyone and everyone... Wtf, how many kids in this generation are going to grow up only knowing one parent... Shit, even kids can divorce there parents now... Yep its an extreme example but imagine if a kid tried to divorce his parents 20 years ago? He would be laughed at...
Ooops I ranted...

Seeing as how this thread has no topic...
WHY?
1-Why is it that gun possession gets you 6 months in jail but murder gets you 25 with an L? WTF you think guns do!!
2-Why is it legal to slowly drink yourself to death?
3-Why is it legal to slowly smoke yourself to death?
4-Why is 2 and 3 legal but smoking a joint is illegal?
5-Why did they execute a 5 time Nobel Peace Prize nominee Tookie Williams?
6-Why is it, that we have more medication on the market then ever before....but people don't live longer? Why the hell dont they ever find the cure to anything, but yet, we have more and more medication everyday... (I know its cruel, but I cant wait till the babyboomers pass away and all these rip off pharmaceutical companies close!)
7- Why is it, that people still call EO only a social Linkshell?
8- Why is it that the store I work in makes 10 million a year easy, but they cant pay there managers properly...
9- Why do we live in a society where the entire fucking population has no gawd damn power? We all just sit back while some dumb ass politicians decide everything for us. And all they do is fuck shit up more. And we keep going with this FAKE democracy... We should be able to electronically vote on everything. I guess the reason we cant do that is because a large portion of the population is unfortunately incompetent...
10- Why does Markus rant so much?
11- WHY?!
