Ditto. If you haven't played XII, I recommend it! It's a greatest hit too, so cheap as fuck.

I think I've done myself a favor by not getting worked up the pre-release details for FFXIII.
I can only hope that they won't rush it out before it's done, like they did with FFXII (which was a great game that could have been one of the best in the series if they had actually spent time play-testing it.)
Then again, it's a really pretty game...

FFXII's issues spurned from the 3 times it was scrapped and restarted mainly from different people heading the development. One guy got sick and had to step down..one guy quit...it was crazy.

FFXII could have been one of the best in the series if they had actually spent time play-testing it. I thought the gameplay was fine, the difficulty was there (outside the main story line), and it was pretty balanced. What makes you say the game wasn't playtested?

Actually there really wasn't any difficulty. You can chain your way to the end of the game at like level 30 lol.

The license grid, while a good idea, had almost a complete lack of balance. By not being able to see options prior to taking them, it's impossible to plan character development. Even if you could, it would be mostly pointless since most of the options are useless by the point they're obtainable (either too early or too late.) The entire license grid becomes pointless near the 2/3 point of the game since everyone will have filled it out completely anyway, thus meaning the only real specialization comes from the gambits you give them since everyone is a jack of all trades.
Combat balance was all over the map, with a general lack in difficulty. 99% of the game can be solved by a simple auto-attack + smart heal gambit system and there aren't a lot of instances where you need to manually input commands until the ridiculously tedious optional 'super-bosses' that will take a minimum of several hours to complete. Chains are so broken, you can beat almost every story boss in the game with a chain combo.
Side quests were spread out all over the place and were basically the only challenge in the game. In order to complete most of them, level grinding was mandatory (which I'm OK with,) but actually grinding the levels so you can complete them means you're vastly overpowered for the main campaign.
Equipment balance was virtually non-existant. There are entire classes of items that are totally useless or just plain inferior to other options. The optimal equipment loadout without zodiac spear is basically sword + shield for everyone after a certain point. Almost every two-handed weapon in the game does disproportionately low damage. Guns become invalid after about the halfway point of the game and the other projectile weapons are basically not worth it to begin with.
The magic system is completely useless. For most of the game, items are much faster, more reliable methods of healing inside combat. Casting anything but green magic is pretty much unnecessary; this is especially true for offensive magic which has a casting time and usually does less damage over time than just meleeing unless you wear nothing but casting gear, which basically strips you of all the benefits of heavier gear while providing basically nothing in return.
In the mid-game onwards, the most effective strategy is basically to have everyone auto-attack and heal with items while spreading green magic amongst party members between combat.
Those are most of the major issues I had. There are dozens more minor issues that wouldn't have ruined the game's challenge for me but should have been taken care of as part of the polishing phase of development. Sure, I'm a little demanding... but it was blatantly obvious to me that they didn't spend anywhere near as much time as they should have actually playing the game to see what worked and what didn't.

Yeah Quistis is indeed hawt... and such a kinky girl with that whip and those "Fuck me" boots... <.< By the way one thing you should look into for more challenge in FFXII is the "Enforced classes" challenge, where you assign abilities and take skills only to suit the chosen class of your characters. Taking other abilities only if absolutely necessary to get to the "class" talents. This also requires you to know the whole license board layout (there's screenshots out there of the whole grid). This will leave a lot of the grid unlocked, but it makes the game more challenging... if your healer gets knocked out you're pretty screwed, for example. ;-) You can find the challenge here: www.ff12sector.com/ff12_challenges_ecc.php
