These games were incredible in my opinion. In similar and different ways. Chrono Cross represents what some can call "The perfect RPG" and Chrono trigger was such an amazing adventure and ride for its time. I will always be going back to those games.. even if it's only in my head. Chrono Cross was Square Enix... FUCK IT.. I'M NOT SAYING THAT ANYMORE... it was Squaresoft at its best. The game was made at such a good time for them i think.... pre-ps2... ps1 still going... >< i just love thinking about it. I would love to talk to other fans of these games. I would also LOVE to know if anyone knows anything about Chrono Break.

Luminaire > All, I can still hear that simple little sound effect in my head.
I loved new game +. I loved the story. I loved the multiple endings, and the multiple different options you had to get to the ending.
The characters were wonderfully diverse. The story kept you playing on.
While Final Fantasy made its name by an entire series which constantly changed, developed new stories and new play styles, chrono trigger was just one game, and yet you'd find yourself thinking back to it and how great it was.
Chrono Cross was...by that time like another Final Fantasy release to me, is the best way I can put it. I remember not liking so many characters (30?) and really not liking that you couldn't get them all at one time.

Chrono Cross is a classic. CT was good...not nearly as good a CC. I still play the emulator from time to time.

What I meant was everybody calls them square enix nowadays. No one calls them squaresoft. Even if it was a game made by squaresoft and not "square enix". So what I was saying is.. FUCK IT.. i'm calling them squaresoft not square enix lol. I know CC is a squaresoft game too >_> after all, it is PS1.

i gotta agree with tachi... CT > all
CC actually disappointed me just a tad.... in very little ways, but was still a freaking awesome game..
but nothing from CC or any other game can hope to capture the excitement and the love i feel for CT
(except maybe Aeris' death in FFVII)

(except maybe Aeris' death in FFVII) Which is, in my opinion, one of the most emotional, memorable, and TOTALLY OVERRATED video game scenes of all time. Yeah, I got choked up when I saw it the first time, I admit it. I spent forever getting Aeris to a level where she was a total badass (she took out the entire Temple of the Ancients by herself on one run-through), and then all of a sudden I lose her entirely and can't ever get her back. At the same time it also made me really sad in a plot sense. I just beat Shadow of the Colossus last night. And let me tell you, each and every Colossus' death scene was more emotionally powerful than Aeris' death. Don't get me wrong, it felt good to administer the final blow to each one, but as soon as I watched them stumble to the ground and finally stop moving, it really got to me, and in a much more effective way than Aeris' death did. Was it a good scene? Yeah, it was great. Do people use it too much as a "most powerful scene ever" cop-out? I think so, personally. Not saying some people don't legitimately believe it, but a lot of people immediately use FFVII-related stuff for "best (insert something here) ever," which really makes me sad, especially (for example) when the final Dante vs. Vergil battles in DMC and DMC3 were much better fights than any of the battles with Sephiroth. Back on topic: FUCKIN' RIGHT, Chrono Cross! Scars of Time, bitches, one of the best opening themes ever! There's a song that commands my attention every time I hear it. The entire soundtrack was just so amazing, I can't help but have the utmost respect for Yasunori Mitsuda. I really enjoyed how cinematic the battles were; made me feel awesome the first time I killed a boss. A friend of mine didn't like how many characters there were, but I remember loving it -- yet another way to customize your game, having so many playable characters. I used people that nobody ever used, like Nikki the rocker chick and the guy with the purple hair and the axe (I can't remember his name for the life of me). God, I love that game. Chrono Trigger too, but I can't say anything about it that hasn't already been said a thousand times before by anyone else.

Chrono trigger is one of those games you can never forget about. i mean its just a wonderous adventure to partake in. Oh and minor technicallity squaresoft and enix made chrono trigger so i guess you could say it was made by square enix. However chrono cross was made by squaresoft. Chrono cross in my opinion lacked the charm and wit that trigger had and also what happened to all the double and triple techs? trigger was soo cool cause of that ability. As for chrono break last i heard the project was cancelled

I loved the visual presentation of Chrono Cross, and in both games, Mitsuda-san's breathtaking soundtrack remains, to this day, not only some of his best work - but some of the best music that RPGs have to offer. The story was well done, although the game was too much of an independent sequel for my tastes... and the ending (I won't spoil it if you haven't played both,) seems like it was rushed at the end just to cash in on a quick cross-over. It was a brilliant game that definately stood out as one of the best RPG titles on the PSone (an impressive feat,) that could have been even greater if given a little bit more time to polish.
But even then... it can't hold a trigger to Chrono Trigger. In a time when the RPG genre was finally starting to pick up steam in the US, Chrono Trigger rushed in and took our hearts by storm. Incredibly detailed and well conceptualized sprites, memorable characters, a great story (for its time,) the time-traveling mechanic, character dual and triple-techs (something I'm amazed that more games haven't copied...) This game has everything. If you haven't played it, you owe it to yourself to pick up a copy of Final Fantasy Chronicals for only $20. Even past the point where our SNES consoles sit in boxes collecting dust, Chrono Trigger is a timeless classic...
[Edit:] Pop quiz: Did you know that Nobuo Uemtasu also supported Mitsuda for the original Chrono Trigger soundtrack? If you've listened to enough of their music, you can probably pick out their styles on your own... but Nobuo contributed a few memorable songs like the "Mysterious Door" theme and theme from the Sewers. Know your composers...
