Chrono Trigger was fantastic-- I still remember begging my dad for it in a Best Buy so many years ago and not understanding what I was getting into. Everything about it is great, including the bizarre plot twists (i.e. Magus's fate), and the music for Frog, perhaps my favorite character theme of all time.
Chrono Cross was a huge disappointment to me. I loved the system, the graphics were great and it did have a couple of twists and turns that were fun, but the characters were cardboard. They focused so much on having an ungodly number of them (50+ total in the game, iirc) that they forgot to give them any personality. One was almost completely interchangable with the next and so I stopped caring. I never managed to finish the game because it just didn't matter. If I can't get involved with the characters and story in an RPG it's just making menu selections and talking to every schmuck in the village because you need to find a potion.
So CT = brilliant, CC = huge let down, imo.

I have got to say that I instantly fell in love with this game as soon as i played it and it quickly became one of my favorite SNES games. It was only ever toped by Earthbound [AKA Mother 2] and Final Fantasy 3 [Later to be 6 on the Playstation console].
End of story, GREAT game and i still play it to date on my Laptop Emulator.

aye, Chrono trigger was deffinatly a genre defining title, and i still play it now an again especially during maint on my emu aswell Yah i really felt that CC tried to emulate havin alot of playable chars in it like Suikoden aswell, and they failed pretty hard at that. Combat an the magic system were pretty kewl though, and i did beat this game

Wouldn't it be something if SE's next MMO was based on Chrono Trigger?

It might be interesting but they would prolly have it broken beyond belief. Refuse to fix anything. Rude gm's. require you to play it 48 hours per DAY an thats jus to aquire nub status within the game. mostly if you couldnt figure out a way to spend 96 hours in 1 day on the game you would never amount to shit

well yah gotta admit after that, an now FF12. I still never beat that game yet. I could just never really get into it all that much. Not to mention how tough it wuld be i think to expand a universe around time travel theme. Not sure how they would deal with past changes having effects in the future world, and what not
