I'm going to see it tonight, hopefully it won't kill those fond childhood memories. Razorbeak was awesome! And no Bumblebee and Starscream is a very very very bad image

I hate to be "that guy", but here goes.
I loved the first half of Transformers. But it ended up going the same way as any typical Michael Bay for me...it's like he gets involved halfway through each of his movies and they go from excellent to shit.
Seriously, can we get past the "chase scene" already? Is there no other way to invoke suspense in a movie besides a chase? It's like I can see them sitting back saying "This is going to be the greatest chase scene ever!" But you know what? It's not, because the one in the second Matrix was the best, and after that there just should not even be chase scenes any more. I'm done with them. They're as generic and predictable and cheap as the entire horror genre.
I didn't care for the Autobots hanging around outside the house while he was looking for the glasses. The entire planet is at stake and for unknown reasons they can't reveal themselves to that kids parents. It wasn't funny, it didn't make any sense. I think the worst scene was when the girl goes "I'll drive, you shoot" to Bumblebee, and they show her driving around, hair in the face, looking over her shoulder like GI Jane or some shit. That was horrible.
The "signal hack"...the English girl or whatever goes over to that guy's house with a copy of the "transmission", and he proceeds to decrypt a "dna-based" alien command language in a matter of seconds with some graphical program. Yeah, okay. I don't understand how all the hacking that had been discussed earlier in the movie was believable, then they just threw it out the window with that shit. And the virus that was planted in the defense system - there was no resolve. Why did they bother with it to begin with then?

Product placement was rather obnoxious at times - typical Bay (seems to stand out with him more than anyone else for me).
And why did the entire planet's communication system go out? I didn't quite get that at all. And then the government just covered up the whole incident? They practically leveled an entire populated city, and the tens of thousands of people who would have witnessed giant robots flying through buildings either forgot, or just wouldn't bother mentioning it to anyone else? Riiiiiiiight.
Started strong, but just fell flat for me. Definitely worth seeing for the CG alone, the robots were impressive, and the first half was outstanding before Bay started working his "magic". Whenever he tried to be funny, he wasn't - aside from Sam. Shia LaBeouf or whatever that guy's name is who played Sam was great.
I understand the movie exists to make money, and there are certain things included to appeal to different demographics, but it was just so obnoxiously done at times. Far too many irrelevant plot elements and loose ends. Or maybe I've just been watching too much Ghost in the Shell and Ergo Proxy lately...can't expect a Michael Bay movie to measure up.
All in all good movie, a lot of fun. But frustrating at the same time because it didn't finish as strong as it started.

LOL. That's too funny. I was actually going almost the exact opposite of the way LockeJV felt.
I felt that the first half was disappointing, not that the story line was not good up to that point, but rather I felt that none of the Transformers truly had any of their telltale personalities that really made the original tv series so great. I mean lets face it every episode was pretty much the same, it was the personalities and cool new characters that made the show strong.
Bumblebee was close in the beginning but I still couldn't help feeling he just wasn't quite Bumblebee. The second half of the movie only partially alleviated this feeling for me. I felt Ironhide was probably done the best.
The action sequences were good, and I enjoyed them, I just wish the movie was a bit more Transformers and a little less generic action film.
I'm sure everyone probly greatly disagrees with me. I've already had several people tell me so, but I figured I'd put my opinion out there.

Oh! and how could I forget where was Starscreams disparaging remark towards Megatron?!?

I can see feeling the same way if I was a Transformers fan, but I never really watched the cartoon. Was more of a G.I. Joe fan. Pork chop sandwiches!

The English chick (although very hot) annoyed the shit out of me. It sounded as if she was choking on the words spewing out of her mouth.

I finally went to see it; I mentally bashed the movie so severely that I was expecting it to be as entertaining as receiving a root canal.
Moral of the story: Having very low expectations from movies means you will (almost) always be pleasantly surprised.

Quite a necro-bump... but I'm not really sure what to think of the trailer.
Looks like it's going to be more of the same from the 2007 Transformers movie... which could be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the individual person.
We'll see how it turns out. Is this the only released trailer right now?
