The texture quality in the demo shots is extremely low, which is kind of disappointing. It is, however, a very early version... so hopefully the textures will continue to be fleshed out or will have some kind of filter run on them. Given how ambitious this game is about portraying conflict across an entire battlefield, I can't help but worry they're going to design combat areas the same way they did with Drakenguard.
This still remains a title to watch, in my eyes.

Most response to the new pictures are negative.....and for me...I think they look great (despite the low res textures used). These texture issues aren't a result of an early build...the game has probably gone gold by now with only a month until release....its SE's first UE game. I hate Unreal Engine....i really really do. Not to mention...this game is being made by the majority of the same group that worked on the "The Bouncer"......which I still liked...kinda All in all...I'll 100% buy this as its something new from SE.

I will admit that I'm very apprehensive here. I have a lot of mixed feeling about this title.
I'm a huge nut for strategy games, and strategy RPGs are very possibly my favorite genre in gaming. The title looks like it has a lot to live up to, as it is certainly a very ambitious project. If they succeed, they will have managed to do something that hasn't really been successfully pulled off before in that they will be able to effectively marry real time action RPGs with a "grand strategy" RPG. It's also a Square-Enix produced title, which is why I am somewhat disappointed by the production values. Gameplay always comes first in my mind, but Square is renowned for their strong artistic style and the ability to portray them nearly flawlessly on a technical level.
Frankly, with the exception of some of the particle effects used, which are above average, the game looks like it was a late release title for the 360. The art style is there, if somewhat more derivatively than usual, but the game just doesn't look like it achieves its goal as well on a technical level. Textures are very low quality, there don't seem to be any advanced filtering effects to cover them up, the topography shown is extremely basic in nature, and the animations may have some issues.
That said, it must be remembered that this is supposedly going to involve conflict on a pretty epic scale. Even if hundreds of soldiers aren't being shown on the screen at once, the graphic engine needs to be highly scalable so that it can jump from one conflict to another. On that level, I understand that they are required to work within the technical limitations of the engine.
The gameplay is what really worries me. Let's be frankly honest, here. Square-Enix infamous for their incredible inability to learn from their own previous mistakes. This is not their first attempt at creating a battlefield strategy-RPG. It is not even their first attempt in recent history. The original Drakenguard was beautiful in its character design and their attempt at creating a mature plot with adult overtones, but the execution was absolutely horrible. The game was nearly unplayable, the music was unlistenable, the game looked like crap on a technical level and the story was completely incomprehensible.
What happened after that?
They released a sequel, which fixed basically zero of the problems the first game had.
So, to be honest, I have a great deal of hope that this game will succeed where their previous attempts have failed miserably, but realistically, I have the expectation set in my mind that this is probably going to be a "next-gen" rehash of the same problems that have already been seen several times now.
With luck, I will be proven wrong and it will be a pretty sweet title.
