lol i tried to recover alot of system files for windows once through DOS by copying and pasting them from the windows install cd, and it took like an hour to do 15 files, because of having to reboot constantly to figure out which file was missing or corrupt next. it was insane...
congrats nauren- i almost got an AW lappy- they're shiny and fun, but i went with the dell xps gen2- seriously though, your laptop is gonna blaze through ffxi!
and mirowr.... hurry up and get that comp running man- snow and I are catching up to even YOUR level :-P

Yea..it almost came down to a lawsuit actually....it was bad. It does fly through FFXI and Doom 3 pretty well though.

Btw, my $0.02 as an ex part time computer tech who had to recover files from a dead drive. Get a new drive, install everything fresh, slave the old drive, see what you can copy. If it wont copy, try freezing the drive for an hour and then immediately putting it in, booting, copy as much before it fails, repeat as necessary. You should at least be able to get your important memories off it.
Yes it sounds silly, yes it works for some drive failures.

i have done that myself temp the freezing just prevents it from overheating which is usually the main cause of hard drive failure
