I think lovesickness is not actually an illness, but rather an indication that your chocobo's chances for mating are high, should you try and find it a "special friend." Again, more speculation, but seems somewhat logical...

Not to sling theories all over the place here, but I've noticed something about my bird recently that kind of makes sense, all things depending. Read, and discuss:
When I started raising my choco, I tried to improve the mental traits, which was a long and arduous process. I barely got to "Substandard" in both receptivity and discernment before she reached adulthood.
After realizing the chocobo was ridiculously slow, and that I have no actual intentions of digging for treasure, I decided to change horses (chocobos?) in mid-stream and increase strength and endurance instead. This has gone much, much faster.
I've come up with two reasons for this, one fairly obvious and the other more of the theory I mentioned earlier. 1.) more advanced care plans (obviously) raise stats quicker. 2.) my chocobo is the standard yellow variety, which SE states is the type typically bred to be mounts, thus for strength and endurance.
So in summation, what I'm thinking is, since my choco is good ol' classic yellow it is more inclined to improve its physical traits, whereas perhaps a different colored choco is more apt to improve its mental traits.
Just thought I'd throw it out there, in case anyone has had similar experiences with their chocobos. I'm sure that when personality traits start emerging in new-born chicks it will then be more obvious what they're inclined towards, but it just seemed at the moment that my bird's stats are moving along a lot quicker now that I'm aiming at physical traits.
