Well Fel's mentor in FF was Lesterp. He taught him...

...how to stand up on things you're not usually able to using bugs.

Also inspired him to...

...to take up a craft; smithing.

But in order to support that craft financially, he had to...

...take up Fishing. Here he is in Rabao fishing up rusty caps during Summerfest.

With those Rusty Caps he synthed Padded Caps and sold them to the npc for gil.

One day, he saw the light though...

And decided it was time to set off on an adventure and perhaps get stronger. So here he is beginning his journey...

He gets into trouble from time to time...

But his fellow Orphans always turn up to help!

He went on to retire from Final Fantasy to find tranquility and peace.
