Alright im putting this into Gaming because it has a Game/Movie/Server refrence =D....
I just reallized why i always thought "Damn....Fenris.....that name seems familiar".......and i'll let you all take a crack!
First one to figure out why......i'll find something to do.....

Fenrir is actually a misnomer on Square-Enix's part. As Milara stated, Fenris is actually derived from Norse mythology, and is the son of Loki and Angrboda. He is prophesied to swallow Odin during the Ragnarök.
Pretty much all of the major summons are actually taken from various religious or mythological sources. It doesn't really stop them from being awesome.

It's not actually a misnomer. Technically Fenrir is his name, but he is also referred to as Fenrisúlfr (the Fenris Wolf).
