It looks really awesome, along with thewhole Wii system concept. You get to play as Snake, and a bunch of characters you wouldn't except. You know who's getting one this christmas . =] Shigeru Miyamoto himself has confirmed the following playable characters: # Pit (Kid Icarus) # Solid Snake (Metal Gear Solid) # Zero Suit Samus (the blue "no-suit" Samus from Metroid: Zero Mission) wii.ign.com/articles/707/707504p1.html

I'm a huge fan of the Soul Calibur series, and no one can argue with Tekken. Both series (particularly Soul Calibur) have, over the years, refined their gameplay to a point where they stand as technical marvels within their genres, the standards by which other fighting games are judged. But I love the Smash Bros series for totally different reasons. All three series are a lot of fun to play with other people, but whereas the first two games are highly competative, and have a very high learning curve, Smash Bros comes through and delivers fun in an entirely different way.
It would have been easy for Nintendo to copy the standard conventions in the fighting genre, but to be frank - I doubt the series would have found it's way onto the gamecube, and now - the Wii. I love Smash Bros because it's everything that other fighting games aren't, its defining characteristic is how far outside the mold of conventional fighting games it is. The replacement of the standard health bar that's been used in virtually every fighting game ever produced with the point-based KO system was ingenious. The focus is on fast, fun and frantic action. Controlled chaos. And yet, it's incredibly simple to pick up and play - even with no prior experience in the fighting genre. Nintendo's beloved legion of world-known mascots simply seals the deal, making it so much more than a simple cash-in.
Maybe I stand alone on this, but I can't wait to see Brawl (though I am a little dissapointed with the announced newcomers.) The Smash Bros melee gameplay was very well balanced and very well suited to tournament play, but still needs some refinement... and since I've moved so often and don't have a lot of local friends to play with, an internet play-matching service would seal the deal as a "Must-have" game for me, personally.
With the PS3 at $600 (let's face it, it's not going to stay $600 forever - even if it's already being sold as a loss leader, because it will have difficulty competing with the 360 for the NA market,) Oblivion being one of the 360's only justifications for the pricetag (as of right now,) the Wii looks like it will be my first (and possibly only) next gen system.

Your definetly not alone for SSB. Its one of the most anticipated games in USA and Japan..but i still can't stand its kiddiness. This is true for 90% of Nintendo's games. Lets face it.. we grew up and Nintendo didn't grow up with us. I'm definetly buying a Nintendo...I also think it has a good chance to be the highest selling console out of all 3 next gen...but its line up pales in comparison to the PS3's with over 200 games in development.

Yeah, I agree with you on both counts. Nintendo has always tried to capitalize on its characters as one of it's primary strengths, with mixed results. On one hand, you have a legion of adult gamers who now feel embaressed playing several of their favorite franchises in public due to the 'kid appeal' Nintendo has tried to use in capturing the 'new' gaming generation. On the other hand... Nintendo's selling point has always been its platform exclusive mascot titles... let's face it. If Nintendo wanted to throw us another Wind Waker - we'd still buy it. Shigeru Miyamoto has already proven that apparently he knows what gamers better than the actual gamers themselves. Cell-shaded or not, we want our Zelda fix. The same can be said for several other franchises, though I particularly like the direction the Metroid series (even though it's not a Miyamoto property) has taken on the gamecube.
All three consoles have a few potential 'killer apps' in development, it's too early to make any realistic predicitions on which system will win this generation's console war... but if Nintendo gets back on the ball and stops whoring their intellectual properties long enough to make outstandingly good games synonomous with the Nintendo in-house development again - you can bet they'll have a good headstart.

I still remember the day back in high school when I first rented Super Smash Bros, got together with three other friends and played it all day. The greatest moment was when whoever was playing Kirby picked up the Star Fox laser pistol and one of my friends yelled at the top of his lungs with no warning or hesitation,
"KIRBY'S GOT A GUN!!"
We didn't stop laughing for hours. That and when someone else commented that Pikuchu sounded like he was saying "Beat the jew." Good times.

Pure speculation, but since they said "guns would not play a large role in Brawl," (seeing that Samus has an entire friggin' arsesnal at her disposal...) they are most likely to make him a mid-class or slightly slower character. Perhaps they'll use moves from his CQC set and implement that into a B attack similar to what Marth and Roy had, but as a grapple attack? We won't know until they release more information on it. They did mention, however, that they might be including rocket launchers... and his Cardboard Box is supposed to make an appearance as a regular B move.
I can't wait to see how it turns out... I just hope he doesn't turn into another Ganondorf...

Not too excited about zero-suit Samus, either... and this is coming from a HUGE fan of Samus, who is quite possibly my best charactor. She'll probably end up being an agile lightweight that doesn't pack a lot of punch, or lacks the variety of long-range options that her chozo-armor counterpart would have...
And pit. Hmm... pit. If ever there was a character design they would 'pit' around link's bow attack, he'd seem like teh winnar. I just can't see them doing a lot with him... but I hope I'm wrong...
Wario is also a confirmed newcomer, as is Meta Knight. I'm practically foaming at the mouth at the prospect of another sword character that isn't a carbon copy of link or roy, I love mid-range characters with defensive options and reach... but Wario will probably end up another DK or Bowser: a specialized heavy-weight practically no-one uses, but a few people can use to great effect.
This game is the only reason I see to move into the 'next-gen' so far. I'm counting the days.

The official site has almost daily updates. They're either characters, their moves, items, stages, music, or other neat extras. So what we see here isn't the complete listing, just the currently confirmed.

Enthralling. POKEMON TRAINER is now a new debuting character, and seems to have a completely different play mechanism than any other character seen so far.
When you select the trainer, you do not actually fight as him, but apparently play as one of hsi three available Pokemon at any time. The mechanic appears to be implemented in a way similar to Zelda, where you have access to multiple move sets by swapping your active Pokemon, but all of them share the same damage taken.
