I completly agree but I dont sit around looking for violence either, with the exception of yes if FF were kiddy it would probably be lacking something... then again things dont have to overly kiddie like mario. Kingdom hearts was a perfect balance.

I doubt that very seriously....had it revolutionized 3D gaming..we would see more games like it..but we dont' lol. I don't mind some kiddy games..and I don't think all games need to have badass charactors..hell I love Kingdom Hearts and its based on childrens chartoons. But because Nintendo makes it a point...to make all games children related. Actually, to address the point of Mario 64 redefining 3D platformers, I have a very clear and very successful series that came after Mario 64 to demonstrate that point -- Tomb Raider. The only differences between Tomb Raider and Mario 64 were Lara Croft and her guns. Both featured the same core gameplay, with ever-so-slightly different mechanics. And things moved on up from Tomb Raider. And Nintendo doesn't actually make their games all for children. It was Shigeru Miyamoto's idea to go with a more mature appeal with the upcoming Zelda game, because of the responses he got regarding Wind Waker. Also, if you look at any of the more recent sports titles to come from Nintendo (the Mario Sports line) you'll notice that they really aren't THAT kiddy. Cartoonish characters doesn't have to instantly mean 'kiddy,' folks. Didn't Conker's Bad Fur Day teach you anything? ;P By the way, you're never too old to enjoy Mario. That's what Nintendo does -- they make games mostly for all ages, not just kids. What irks me is that a lot of the "mature gamers" out there can't just admit that they enjoy the games sometimes -- no, they have to look all awesome and spout off for an hour about how awesome Halo is in front of their friends. (Before anyone goes off calling me a raving fanboy, lemme remind you -- I own an Xbox, a PS2, and a Gamecube, and I play them all about the same. It's just insulting, in my mind, to sit by the sidelines and watch people attack one of the video game companies that they grew up with.)

I never doubted enjoying modern Nintendo games childish or not. However I'm not enthralled by them and I will only play said games when I'm bored of other modern games that are aimed closer to my age bracket and give me more enthusiasm to play. Again...Nostalgic reasons are not enough to crown it King.
I'll also go as far as to say...it was one of the only gaming systems at its time when it came out......it can't be number 2 when there isn't a competitor.

I still dont get how ppl can say stuff like "the controller is retarded" *cough* nauren! *cough*
I mean, seeing as nintendo isn't trying to beat sony or M$ then why worry we still gonna have standard controllers on those two systems. Im looking forward to play with the revolution controller the most cuz to be honest I do feel kinda tired of the same old games... the stuff that used to take me 20hrs to beat now takes 15, or less. Ive been playing games for 14 years and do want a new way to play.
The console im having the most fun with since the super nintendo is the DS. Nintendo makes fucking amazing games and no one can deny that, they just trying to reinvent the wheel, I wish sony and M@ would do that but they dont have the balls.
anyway im a nintendo fan boy so many my view is warped but I go where the games go and zelda, mario, and samus have yet to be beaten on sony or M$'s machines.;

FF>all
I've been playing games for about 23 years now myself. I owned pretty much every system out there. Mario is still fun....but not for the story..Mario is played out....dead..done....blood from the stone has been squeezed. Talk about reinventing the wheel and new ideas??? how about no mario as a new idea lol. Nintendo is the king of "the same ol stuff".
The controller dude......its remote....I don't want to do aerobics while playing a game...why would I want to worrya bout the direction of my controller....Not saying it wont' be fun from time to time..but it wont' work for all games. If I was playing a good RPG.. iw ant to lay back...set the controller down...read the strategy guide.. sit up play......lay dow and play....stand up and play......sit sideways and play.....not stand stationary in front of the tv at a direct face to face position moving my controller in the way they specify.
DS has some good games..i won't deny that......a far cry from SNES...they dont' even compare. In fact DS sales haven't been record breaking at all.
Did you know more PS2's sold then all then GB, GBC, GBA, GB Micro, DS put together? Not only sold more but sold more in excess of 20 million units.
I'm not a Sony fan boy..I'm a Gamer....I like all games..all types...all systems....but I think Nintendo is trying to gimic its way into the next generation....face it...after its last 2 systems its running out of steam.

Actually, Nauren, my assistant manger Lucas and I were looking at numbers for world-wide sales for the past six months last night at work. In the time it's been out, DS has sold over 15 million units. Over the Christmas season, DS was the number-one selling system, with the PSP in a distant second. And saying "no system has sold more than the PS2" is entirely unfair. PS2 has been out since I was a sophomore in high school -- 1999. It's had time to build itself up, and the really shitty part is, a decent bit of the huge-ass numbers it gets are from people buying repeat systems due to system failure or damage. I don't mean to insult you, Nauren, but I hear that "I'm not a fanboy, I'm a gamer" thing all the time at work... and it always comes from the Sony fanboys. Again, not trying to insult you, just saying, that's what it's like. EDIT: And one more question... if you're a gamer, then why the hell do you care about sales numbers? You should be playing the games, not singing their praises based on sales figures, man.

Simply stating facts there Gael. To be a gamer is to be a gamer and know all things gaming. Used in conversations like above...useless knowledge??? maybe so. And i quite often get called a fanboy because I think Nintendo is going in the wrong direction. Generally by people younger then me and self-proclaimed nintendo fan boys.....a pattern if you will.
I also compaired a system to an entire lineage of systems dating back older then the PS2..which would be the original Game Boy. So to say the Playstation outsold the entire liineup of Gameboys including the DS would be extremely fair since it has more years under its belt then the Playstation.
DS is the number one selling Hardware gaming device right now..even above the Xbox 360 (shortages induced). It easily rules and owns pretty much all aspects of the gaming industry including the PSP. I never said it wasn't doing good.. I said its a far cry from the SNES because the SNES kicked ass.
and I dont' take offense....but you did just stereotype me lol. the fact of the matter is I can run circles around most gamers in fact for all systems. (not saying I could do that against you..but just in general and history has proven)
and I wasn't praising their sales figures..I made a statement (a true one at that) and that was it. Now I can't be called a fanboy and a non-gamer because I made a statement that could be percieved negatively towards one particular system.

Just so you know, dude, the DS is not considered a Game Boy iteration, by Nintendo or retailers. It's an entirely separate system. So no, comparing the PS2's six-year sale cycle to the DS' one-year sale cycle isn't fair.
Also, you need to re-read my post -- I wasn't calling you a fanboy. All I said was that your argument was very similar to ones that I hear from fanboys that come into my store. I thought I made it clear that I wasn't calling you that, as I view 'fanboy' as an insult.

No I understood that you weren't calling me one..which is why I said I'm not offended. Simply displaying my defensive behavior to those who do. DS is a new system...but backwards compatible....like the PS2 to the PS1 or the Xbox 360 to the Xbox....they use different mediums for their new software but similar because of the backwards compatability. So there is a direct comparison of the 2.
None the less...as far as 1 year sales it hasn't broken any records as of yet.....not for a console or a handheld for that matter.
The system itself doesn't appeal to me but I love alot of the games on it. Lunar, Metroid, FF......lots of awesome RPG's.
but if you want a direct more fairl comparison between the PS2 and DS...the first year of PS2 they sold in access of 16.7 million units. Ofcourse they are 2 different Hardwares..one handheld..one console so there are severe differences.
