I dont understand how anyone could put this controller down, I really dont... anytime ive heard someone says its lame they've had nothing to back it up but " I like my two handed controller" but how do you know you do till you've tried this, nintendo isn't going to release something that doesn't work. they may do things that seem stupid marketing wise but their hardware is always good, they just dont have the support of anyone but themselves.

hehe I'll give you a good reason.. a couple in fact.
1. Iwata himself said the controller is based and created for non-experienced gamers (roughly translated to people who suck at games and too many buttons confuse them). The people who turn the controller on racing games...or jump up and down on the couch when they want to make their charactor jump are the people this controller is designed for.
2. Cardiovascular arobics is best not done during games. I want to enjoy story lines, graphics, gameplay....I don't want to do jumping jacks to make mario do a spinning jump.
3. A similar product was released years ago for pc and crashed in a burning explosian.
4. and this is my personal opinion.....I'm like the book reader of video games....I like RPG's and I like to read immense long story lines......too me....its like doing the hokey pokey to turn the page of a book.
All in all..I don't want a controller to tell me how I need to play..sometimes I like to stand..others times I sit...or maybe I'll lay down.....sitting at a certain angle of the tv in which this controller will not allow. I simply want to enjoy the "Game" not the controller.

This could be the first still towards vitual reality, this is what is bring us closer to true immersion into a world not just a story. I play games for story I do, I really do, but a lot of a story and much of the emotion is games come from actually playing *see ending of Metal Gear Solid 3.... scene in the flower feild*
There so much potential here for truely involving moments, Saddling up on Link's horse and actually riding into the sunset. Another example: If you played Resident Evil 4 you know how often you would jump up, maybe not because you were scared but because its so natural to wave your hand and maybe not aim but at least move the direction your character does when shooting. Games like Final Fantasy will even become easier to guide no more pressing tab or wtv to select targets just point press "b" and you attack or press L1 for magic, L2 for items, and down on the D-pad for run away, no nasty menu management. And its not like developers dont want to make games for it Hideo Kojima is already ranting and raving about how excited he is to work with it... and he still has to finish MGS4 before he can "Ha!" I think there's a lot of potential for nintendo to come back, mix nintendo franchises, with new hardware, and good developers... PLUS for the first time ever NINTENDO ONLINE!! and you'll be left with an excellent gaming machine.

Nintendo's games are generally and most undoubtedly too childish for me. I grew up with Nintendo but Nintendo did not grow up with me. I'm 27 so I had the very first Nintendo back in the day and some games/franchises I still love today.
I don't doubt this controller will be fun....thats not it at all...but it will not replace current controllers today. There are several reasons why.
1. As I said before...it failed miserably for the PC
2. Extra cost in development
3. Style of tv and angle you are sitting from tv will greatly effect the outcome.
4. A device of this type has to be extremely fragile to send and recieve the info.
And again...I'm a gamer....and the mere fact Iwata himself said that this controller is geared towards the not so average gamer, turned me off from it. So he made it more simplistic for the dumb kids lol. Hell I think we need 4 more buttons on controllers we have today haha.
Nintendo is going to have a few mountains/mole hills it needs to cross before it will be accepted as a console thats even in the war.
1. System specs power. In the small chassi they are showing..they will not be able to reproduce the power of Xbox 360 or PS3 due to heating issues. The Xbox 360 and its current technical problems are proof of this enough and its 3 times the size of the Rev.
2. They need to sell to a larger audience. There are very few adult style games on Nintendo (/em laments the release of Nintendogs on DS that people went crazy over)
Right now..Nintendo is barely in the race. Ofcourse very little info has be revealed so that can change quickly. I will own a Rev...also a Xbox 360 and without a doubt a PS3....but I will not want to use the magic wand controller for 90% of the games I play.

butter we know you're a rapid fanboy. >=)
Every non-hardcore (and several hardcore) videogame player I ever dealt with in a decade of selling videogames hated the N64 controller, hated the GC (GameCube) controller, and is at least extremely confused by the DS touchpad. (Though I dont have too much data on the last as I left the field of videogame sales 9 months ago).
For that crowd, the question I ALWAYS got asked was if there was a SNES style controller for whatever system. The PS2 controller is usually fairly well recieved, but needs to have a larger version for adults. The XB "small" controller is extremely well received by casual players, its a good size, and they can figure it out fast.
I bet the third party manufacturers will be quick to make "real" controllers that plug into the wand, hopefully with wireless technology of their own...

Nintendo themselves plan to realese a frame to put the controller into so you can play games such as tony hawk, at least thats what ive most recently heard. I just think people are to quick to put this down, we'd really not have much in the gamming world without nintendo and just cause their insane doesn't mean there stupid... I guess we'll just have to see
P.S there wouldn't be a snes controller without nintendo right? so its there choice if they wanna rework the standard.

Nintendo is the sole reason video games exist today......that doesn't in any shape or form make them the best. They lost the front runner seat about 6-7 years ago. Nostalgic reasons are not good enough to be a fanboy. I'm interested in games today.

It means they have some idea how to make a game if they made games popular to begin with, and though a lot of ppl disagree I think they've helped the industry evolve properly... image the 3D gamming without mario 64.

mario 64..at its time...didn't break any records lol and was too kiddy even for mario. The last really good mario was Super Mario for SNES. Evolve?..nah...Nintendo is behind the times as far as modern games are and have been for some time now. They are kinda stuck up..but one thing for sure...is Nintendo manages there money very well...they never lose money. However their pockets are miniscule compaired to M$ and $ony.

I dunno I guess im the retard for it but I really could care less if a game was kiddy or not. I was really pissed that naughty dog turned jak into an asshole and I think it really sucks link is looking all badass these days I just dont feel the need to play as a cool lookin character.
What do you mean records? Mario 64 almost defined how we play our 3D console games.

I doubt that very seriously....had it revolutionized 3D gaming..we would see more games like it..but we dont' lol. I don't mind some kiddy games..and I don't think all games need to have badass charactors..hell I love Kingdom Hearts and its based on childrens chartoons. But because Nintendo makes it a point...to make all games children related. Sometimes I like serious story lines...like most Final Fantasy games...sometimes I like action like Soul Caliber...but very seldom do I sit around and say "hrhmmm i want to play something that I would play alot if I were 20 years younger"
