I wish I could rate you up twice within the same 24 hour period.
I carry 52 pieces of Red Mage gear with me to events and gods, even if I'm only outside healing. I do it because I like playing my job to the best of my ability, and I like being prepared for any eventuality. You can't possibly judge someone based upon equipment alone. You have absolutely no idea what that person has on the side.

My personal opinion is that you need both, but that skill matters more. You can spend 60 million on your gear, but it can't change anything if you suck at playing your job. On the other hand, you can be one of the best players on Titan, and if you don't have the gear to back it up, your talent is going unfulfilled.
The way I see it, good gear compliments a good player.
No matter how good a Red Mage you are in an exp setup, Gods or HNM mobs are a cut above your standard exp mobs. As a general rule of thumb, they are hardier, much more resistant to spells and status effects, and usually well above your individual level (and skill range.) In these circumstances, there are really no other ways to improve your efficiency against these mobs after you have capped your skills... except through equipment. Let's face it. No RDM is probably going to land enfeebles on gods consistantly without about 320+ enfeebling and HQ staves.

Agreed. Most people believe gear makes the player. This is why i still stand by the fact that most NIN on this server suck monkey balls. Only a few ive ever met live up to everything their job entails, and theyre not the best equipped. gear imho raises one's potential, but you can't enhance what isn't there. Much like being BRD, you cant make a bad PT good, only good PTs great.

i agree, gear does make a good player better. I've been landing enfeebles on demis consistently since lvl 73 and land them on gods since i started meriting enfeebling magic. Now on gods the consistency wasnt there, but i havent had a chance to enfeeble any gods since I've merited enfeebling to 5. I would love the chance at it tho. ;D (hint hint wink wink )

I agree for the most part, but when it comes to enfeebling - regardless of how skilled you are, if you don't have a certain amount of mnd (or int depending on the enfeeble) and merits, you simply can't land an enfeeble and win against luck.
It's why Nickrhodes would get first spot in main ally regardless of if he was drunk >.> He'd still have the best chance of landing the enfeeble than the person who needs to cast it 2345947597x before luck decides to stick it.
Just offering some perspective on itin case anyone ever feels slighted about who gets to be in main ally.

Honestly, that's a very valid point... which is why I decided to go back and edit it into my original post right after submitting it. Gear doesn't make the player, but when it comes to non-merit end-game activity - there's only so much you can do without the gear to back it up. Effectiveness in the end-game arena requires both.

Now its just a matter of convincing duely to merit past stage 3 enfeeb and 2 wind since all he ever does at events is heal lol. He wants to just jump right on BLM after he gets drk to 37.

for the record, with stage 3 enfeebling you can reliably land on all gods, including Kirin, assuming your gear is enfeebling aimed, and are using your elemental staff.

Thats comforting. S'pose i'll wait and see what happens. his equip is geared towards enfeeb minus a few pieces. He just changed to windy so he can work on those bracelets. AFTER saving over 40k CP in bastok only to find out only windurstians can ever gett hem ..<

I know this is a long-ass thread already but it seems to be the place to let my feelings known now since I've been away for a bit over a week, and I'll try to keep it positive. Numero uno, it's sad to see people leave this linkshell. I've been apart of a few as I've played this game and I've found a true home here in EO. I can't think of any good reason to leave it. The people are great, and it's so much a social ls that just gets shit done. At the same time very professional with their fairness as far as payout/points; I have complete trust in the main SHs here. That's not even an issue for me. Nombre deux, I must say that I noticed the recruiting right away and made due note of it. I don't care that you wanted to leave, meaning I wouldn't hold anything against you if you bowed out respectfully. BUT that is not what happened, and I don't care what your reasoning or what you tell yourself and others that makes you sleep better at night, that's just SHIT. Nothing has happened in this ls to make me think it deserved that kind of disrespect. Number three, the good thing about EO is that the members that do stay around work and have worked together really well for a long time. Taking some of the best members from an already established ls won't help you at all. But good luck with that. With the applications to other HNMls' that is. The only reason I'm annoyed at all is because people left in such a crappy way.. and weaker members followed. Because it's easier to jump ship into unknown, shark-infested waters than waiting out the storm? 'Cause there sure isn't any leak in this shell, and... I'm done with that stupid metaphor. This is me being nice By the way, to the topic above, it takes both skill and the proper equipment to successfully pull off *any* job. /oot
