Compared to what it was, FFXI has been officially fixed. While some things will actually be missed.... here's a brief list of updates that have happened over the years:
1) Soloing to level up is now possible. EP mobs now give 100xp instead of 12-25 xp.
2) Hitting the maximum level now takes about 1 month of casual play. You can do it faster if you want.
3) There is a Teleport to sky available from various craigs after completing a quest.
4) Many of the Kings became forced pops.
5) Level Sync is now possible. You can play with lower level friends and not have to get low level gear, your high level gear is scaled appropriately.
6) The CoP level caps were supposedly removed... so it wasn't the biggest nightmare in the world to play.
7) The level cap was actually raised from 75 to 99.
8) The price of Dynamis was dropped from 1 million to 50k.
9) LFP for hours is gone do to soloing being available.
... there were actually a bunch of other things updated and added, but these things really stuck out.
In the last few weeks I actually leveled DNC/BLU/BST/DRK/RDM to 30 without a whole lot of effort or time.
I'll be playing this for a while, right now I'm only playing really late at night. Feel free to look me up if your on. Since Titan was merged with Pheonix I'm now "Bridgerbot" and not "bridger".
