The demo is definitely worth a play. Takes roughly an hour to complete.

Some DA vs DA2 comparisons. Apparently, they wanted to make the game easier and allow newcomers to the genre to be able to ease into the game and it's controls. I guess that had an impact on development as well. *shrug* Overall, I'm happy with the changes, I just wish that it still stayed around 60 hours of game play. I guess when you cut down on the other elements, you inevitably shorten the game play time. Dragon Age: Origins 1,000,000 Words 1,000 Cinematics 1,000 Characters 56,000 Spoken Lines 60 Hours of Gameplay Dragon Age II 400,000 Words 2,500 Cinematics 500 Characters 38,000 Spoken Lines 40 Hours of Gameplay gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/84352/gdc-2011-dragon-age-ii-significantly-shorter-and-more-cinematic/

Anyone else getting this?
I played through DA as a Warrior. I think I will be a Mage this time! I'm pretty excited. I hope their is some wicked shape shifting in this one too... I loved making Morrigan turn into a big ass green spider. It gave me the heebee geebees. Idk how to spell heebee or geebee

I am still working through my first run in Origins. I'm at the end of the game and the story is outstanding. I haven't been this engaged in an offline RPG since probably Xenogears (1998). Incredible game.
Spoiler: Poor Alistair - I made him king! But at least I didn't make him screw Morrigan ;D

Xenogears, best game ever. I'm so mad they made those terrible "prequels"

Yea, I've heard great things about Xenogears, sounds like I should scoop it up one of these days.
I think I was overly critical of the first DA. I couldn't put it down either and that says a lot.
DA2 even goes as far as uploading your save information. It mainly uploads the major decisions you made during your play through. I'm not too sure of the impact it has on DA2 but it's a cool feature nonetheless. I'm still early on in DA2 but it's awesome!

If I could see a remake of any game, Xenogears would be second on my list (behind FFVI). I've tried to replay multiple times, but Xenogears didn't age very well; it plays really slow and there are some annoying gameplay flaws.
I thought the first Xenosaga, which was supposed to be the first of a nine game series, was a great start to the series. Namco crashed and burned with the second, dumbing down the combat system and storyline in favor of a new graphics engine it took them two years to build, from what I understand. And the graphics actually got worse.

Here is part of some guy's review of Xenosaga, a little commentary about MOMO (the 12 yr old android) and her panties:
This will probably be the biggest selling point of the entire game. Everyone knows the story sucks, but whenever MOMO, the android with the appearance of a 12 year old girl (to sort of disguise her, the game alleges) shows up in a cutscene, you can usually see her kneel down and show a flash of bright white, unmistakable panties under her extremely short skirt, and that will sell copies more than the story will. If you play this game at all, you literally cannot get away from seeing her panties several times. Even in the battle scenes, when she dies, she does it ass in the air, with a clear behind-the-feet view of bright white Elvis-adored cotton panties. The reason this is here is because the game's creators (like most anime creators) know there are a lot of pedophiles out there who want to see a 12 year old with big cute eyes and a cute pert nose being sexualized as much as possible, while having a perfectly good excuse for it. In this case, the very transparent "she is an android, not human" excuse. Save it for the Devil, motherfucker, because the court of Crimes Against Humanity is sentencing you to a quick and painful execution: shot in the face on the lawn of the White House.

I finished Dragon Age: Origins last night. With all of the detail leading up to the climax, the actual ending seemed pretty short and a bit rushed.

And the graphics actually got worse. First one was ok, it just kinda had nothing to do with xenogears. Second one was terrrrrrrible. Every random encounter took 30mins+ to beat lol. Ive re-played Xenogears on an emulator, it smooths out some of the textures if you can get it to run right. And pshhhh I like th sprites in FF6, they need to bring back the sprites!

Some small spoilers in the next wall 'o text. Read on at your own peril ^^ No story related spoilers really, mainly just game play. The game has created quite a bit of controversy including, not one but two DA2 owners getting their EA accounts banned for talking too much shit on the forums. They ended up getting locked out of the DA2. Bioware remedied the situation but not before causing quite the drama as gamers were up in arms with the mere though of not being able to play a game that they bought with their hard earned dollars. Couple that with Biowares inclusion of secuROM without any notice to the players equals... Omfg bad press! When you see Spoiler-esque comment, highlight the following lines with your mouse to see the text.On to the main event. Personally, I enjoyed the dialogue of DA2 more than I did DA:O. Same goes for the small cutscenes that you get when speaking to an important NPC/quest giver. In DA:O it just seemed like every conversation would result in the camera zooming in on the NPC and then he began a long winded speech... With that said, I guess Bioware felt that the ground work was laid and instead of trying to immerse the player in a completely new story, they just built on the foundation that they had already laid. It just feels like they didn't build enough on it. This game, as with most of Biowares lineup, allows you to make decisions during dialogues with your party members and people you encounter in the world. Personally, I enjoy the new system. Not only do you read the options but they come with a handy icon that helps indicate what kind of response you are giving. Top right is the typical good guy response. Middle right is the smart ass response; Hawke definitely made me "lol" quite a few times. Bottom right is the hard ass hero response. During my first play through I pretty much always selected the typical good guy response with the occasional comedic response when I felt the mood called for it. It's worth noting that these are the 3 basic types of responses and you are given different types of options at times. But this new system does take away from some of the mystery of what's going to happen next. Spoiler-esque comment: Some of the cast and crew do make cameos but not in the dramatic manner that they could have. The ending was similar to DA:O as well. Anti climatic. I don't feel like I saved the world. Again... If this is the age of Dragons... I expect there to be MORE DRAGONS. DA:O didn't have enough dragons either...Character creation is on par with what you can expect these days. Although we are limited to 3 classes and only one race (both genders of course). The music is awesome and so are the graphics. Persistent gore? Yes please and I don't even know why. I just enjoy it lol... The combat effects are spectacular. When they want, they have some of the best sound effects of any RPG. But they seem to use them rarely. If I can be creeped out more often, then I want to be creeped out! ^ Some examples of Mage spells on PC, I played on PS3. I don't want to give too much away, as I find that the combat is the games major selling point. That's what I don't want to spoil. I played as a Mage. My main focus was elemental magic and I guess you could say that my sub job was force magic. The effects and detail are amazing. I really enjoyed the combat. This being my second time around, I was immediately able to pick up my staff and start blowing bad guys up. Some of the encounters were reminiscent of certain MMOs. You have the main bad guy. He dashes off for a moment and suddenly sends waves and waves of his underlings at you. I found myself often thinking "omg burn down those adds!" One major con. Tons of loading. Another major con. The entire game takes place across 3 relatively small areas. Kirwall Day, Kirwall night and the Free Marches. We're talking like 30 different areas total and that's including the fact that I'm counting many of them twice because the only difference between day and night is... you guessed it, the daylight. When will the wonderful folks who make games get it... We want full, open worlds where we can roam freely. We also enjoy various modes of transportation. Just sayin' Spoiler-esque: I fucked two chicks in the game. Merrill's ass? Awesome. You get a quick little booty shot after you... *clears throat* make love to her. Very well drawn. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for liking animated chicks lol... The DLC so far is pretty much just purchasing a new character and a few trophies. If you do plan on getting the DLC, get it early on because unlocking some of the trophies related with the DLC requires time. And I love me some trophies. The menus are beautiful especially compared to DA:O and especially compared to some of the other menu layouts that we find in our RPGs these days. You can equip all of your characters with weapons and accessories. But you can only equip your main character with head, gloves, feet, chest. The rest of your team selects their own equipment but you do find automatic upgrades for them from time to time. 16 total unlockable items. You get them mainly by doing EA's promotional work. Yea, I said it. You encourage your customers to promote your game for you with the promises of in game items. Kind of makes me sick. For realsies. Oh yea... And I find it kind of ironic, that I can finish DA2 faster that I can unlock all of the items via Dragon Age Legends; a facebook game. Anyone else see a problem with that? What the uckfay... I enjoyed the game and I'm happy with the purchase at it's full price. I find that gamers are very often notoriously cheap. You may want to wait for that price drop. Your call. I thought about the game a lot. I wanted to play it constantly and I'm about to start a second play through as a female Rogue. I plan on skipping pretty much all dialogues though. The story just isn't that immersing. I feel the need to add that I am disappointed too. Mainly because I feel like Bioware could of done so much more. Do. More. Focus less on DLC and the games promotion. Focus more on the story and the world. It promotes itself after that. Just like the first one did. You're going to have to come fucking hard for DA3 or this franchise may come to an end much sooner then it has to. Your forums are already blowing up with complaints. Take your time on the next one.
