PC and PS3 uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/109/1093790p1.htmlapparently free to play as well. For years now, I've been writing about DC Universe Online -- about battles with Bizarro, about getting missions from Superman, and about how you're creating your own hero or villain in this massively multiplayer online game and not just being one. But the one thing I haven't been able to write about is when this game is coming to the PlayStation 3 and PC. Now, I can. Start designing your costume, would-be supers; DC Universe Online is coming this November

Free to play is shocking and it worries me. Where will they get the income to maintain an innovating MMO? *shrug*
But the game looks interesting. Would this be the first free to play MMO on a console?

It's such a bunch of bs imo, I think I'm blocking it out lol... But I guess if I owned the company, I'd do the same thing.

I don't really have a problem with Free to Play games as long as they're actually free to play. If the game forces people to buy items in order to advance and models its entire economy based on this fact, or if it charges fees for basic necessities of gameplay like player storage, it's not a Free to Play game - it's a Hidden Cost game.
This becomes a problem when you have a company that makes questionable decisions regarding their pricing model (like Cryptic) such as charging players to purchase the game, charging them for a subscription cost, and then also charging them with gameplay enhancing microtransactions on top of everything else.
I understand that as a business, they are not producing a game out of charity. The point is to make money off it. The trick will be coming to a reasonable balance between providing a game that people will actually want to play and then giving them incentive to want to purchase additional bells and whistles without making them feel like they're being nickled and dimed for everything.
My interest in this game (and most other people's, I assume) depends mostly on which direction they decide to go with their free to play model.

PS+ members get to BETA test this for free.
I'm having PC issues so I'm playing this and it's decent so far. Much better than Champions Online because it has brand name Super Heroes and Villains. Good shit. Seems like this game will be based heavily on PvP.

I wish this game the best, but I'm not working myself up into a frenzy over it until I see how it does on the market.
I've been burned too many times before... lol

It's pretty fun but I just can't be bothered to pump too much time into it. I stopped playing at like level 8 and pretty much as soon as the game became challenging. I didn't feel like getting a group and stuff. But it's definitely worth keeping an eye on.

So after launch I can say:
It's a normal MMO @ 14.99$ a month. I'm assuming the misinformation about buying extras was the station.com deal that gave you more char slots and whatnot.
The combat system is very action RPG'ish. And it actually uses a pretty fluid system of clicks to do the different combos. It feels like a beat'em'up, and each weapon class and caster class feels different enough to warrant trying them out.
Armor: You DO get armor upgrades (and weapon upgrades). However if you like the way a particular piece of armor looks, you can actually lock the graphic. So you can equip whatever and it always looks awesome.
Raiding: I haven't had the chance to participate as its restricted to level 30's. From the LFG menu I can see there are multi person raids, and duo raids @ 30. I have had the chance to try out an arena type deal that is basically equivalent to an instance in WoW. It was pretty fun and I got some lewts. Also, there is Pvp and raid armors though I'm not sure how to get them yet.
There are 3 types of travel forms, speed, acrobatics, and flying. So far I feel as if flying trumps the other two, but they are all FUN to use.
The quests: They're obviously inspired by the comic books, which makes them more interesting. They are the standard, kill / fetch / explore quests that are the staple of MMO's. They don't feel like they get old due to how fun the combat system is. However as of right now, you can get yourself confused with picking up too many quests branching out in different directions.
The PvP: Its fun, there are several types of battlegrounds. One of the more notable ones is a Legends match in which you pick a staple char and use it as your own. (Ex: You start off with Harley, you get tokens to buy more chars as you win games.) Now technically there are a few issues with getting juggled to death but I'd assume that stuff will get fixed.
Achievements: They're in the game much like in WoW, but in DC they actually give you skill points (used for weapon combos and buffs). I'm not sure if there is a soft cap for skill points, so you can potentially master several weapon classes and your movement form. While people may say they don't want to feel like they HAVE to achievement hunt to stay competitive, you can max out your movement + 1 weapon skill via the skill points you get from leveling. So the extras from achievements are welcome.
General state of the game: So soon after launch and I can already say the game is awesome. Of course there are bugs and missing features. Namely they turned off high resolution textures, there are missing key bind options, graphical issues like popping, UI lag, stuff they'll iron out eventually. All in all I'm pretty happy with the game and I'm sure they're going to continue the good work. I was very tentative about playing a game at launch after the FF14 disaster but its worth it.

The foundation of the game seems to be really solid. Unlike, say, Champions, I'm not left with lingering bitterness or questions about whether the game will still be here in 6 months.
Really, its biggest problems are typical new-MMO launch issues that I suspect will largely melt away as they continue to patch issues and add additional content.
Maybe not worth paying monthly for right now, but an interesting game to keep an eye on as it continues to grow.

Yah the issues they're having is typical launch stuff.
I also wanted to note the time to level cap should take roughly 40 hours. This means the game appears to be more focused around gearing up than leveling.
