Markus is wordy, what can I say? (a hell of a lot, buhzinga!) Jon and I purchased (ok Jon and Nat purchased them, I just get to play them lol <3 <3 them long time though) some games via the PlayStation Store. Some are pretty damn good and others are poo covered leafs on a warm spring day.
So I thought it would be fun to post some 'quick' facts/reviews.
(Prices are subject to change. Please keep in mind that these games are developed as being downloadable content. So the time and effort put into these games is less than a game that you would find on the shelf at your local EB. So the scale that we judge them on is also different. Always ask yourself... Wtf do you expect for $9.99? $12.99? We had nothing like this 10 years ago...)

Game: TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled Price: Company: Ubisoft Players: Single (story mode, survival mode, quickplay mode) Multiplayer 1-4 (local: same modes as single, online: quick match, create match, custom match) Leaderboards: Yes Online play: Yes
Online activity: Low
Comments: It wasn't what I expected but I still played through it a few times. Trying to collect trophies, trying to beat my scores. It's basically a side scrolling game (you move left to right, as you defeat the enemies it advances the screen for you. You can move up and down as well.) with very little interaction with the environment. Not many moves either. You hack and slash your way from level to level mashing the same buttons over and over.
To buy or not to buy, Markus?: It's a toss up. Do you like mindless hack and slash games? Do you often only have like 30 minutes to game and don't really want to invest any time in a more in depth game? How do you feel about Pizza eating mutant turtles with a mutant rat as a Sensei? April has big boobs and looks great in yellow.

Game: Mortal Kombat II Price: Company: Midway, pretty sure the other companies are riding Midway's electronic coat tails on this one. Players: 1-2 Leaderboards: Yes Online play: Yes
Online activity: Low
Comments: MORTALLLLLLLL KOMBAT!! *cues really annoying techno* Once upon a time, NA had an arcade at every other corner. These days, we keep arcades in our homes. This, ladies and gentleman, is a piece of gaming history. I don't even like fighters but I couldn't pass up the chance to own this.
To buy or not to buy, Markus: Yes. It's a piece of video gaming history. The game is damn hard to. I either used to be a lot better or they upped the difficulty.

Game: Bomberman Ultra Price: Company: Hudson Soft Players: 1-4 Leaderboards: Yes Online play: Yes
Online activity: Dare I say Medium
Comments: We used to play this non stop on the SNES. Usually for money lol. Multitap ftw. I owned the game, pretty sure I won more than my fair share of games but I definitely had off nights that resulted in holes in walls. But I digress.
I was disappointed by the games new ratio or scale. It's hard to explain. On the SNES everything was smaller, the power ups were smaller, the characters were smaller, the blocks were smaller. This made the map and everything else appear larger. Now it seems like we are all squished in together, especially when you have 4+ bomberman running around.
The more you play Bomberman Ultra the more outfits, hairstyles and heads you will unlock. Very cool imo. The games are fully customizable. New powerups and powerdowns. BM fans will find this game new and very familiar at the same time.
What's the main goal of Bomberman? Blow everyone up!
To buy or not to buy, Markus: I'm very pleased with it. Epic multiplayer fun and I have history with the game. I love the new additions.

You want PSN games. Super Stardust HD, Pixel Junk Monsters, Pixel Junk Shooter are must haves. I have a few more 'reviews' already written and a few more to write. I will definitely look into those. I wanted a shooter, the one I picked up sucked ass.

Game: Gauntlet Price: Company: Midway Players: 1-4 Leaderboards: Yes Online play: Yes
Online activity: Low
Comments: You get to be either a Warrior, Valkyrie, Wizard or Elf. It has a Zelda (the first one) point of view. You collect keys, treasure and spam X as you throw your Axe/Fireball/etc at waves of incoming enemies and progress level to level. I haven't played it much if you have specific questions, I'll be glad to try and answer them.
To buy or not to buy, Markus: It's not that the game is so horrible by PlayStation Store standards. It's because we thought it was something entirely different. Would not purchase again.

Game: Fat Princess Price: Company: Titan Studios Players: 1-2? Leaderboards: Yes Online play: Yes
Online activity: Medium
Comments: In a nutshell, the point of Fat Princess is to capture the other teams "flag". In this case, a Princess! To deter and slow down your opponent, you fatten your princess up by feeding her mass amounts of cake. This will not only make her harder to carry but it also provides more cushion for the pushin'. God knows I love pushin'...
I find the menus retarded lol. I think they wanted to be funny and kind of failed at it. But once you dive in, things become clearer.
The net has tons of info on this. I doubt I could say anything that hasn't been said. Especially since I haven't put much time into it.
To buy or not to buy, Markus: Yes. This is where you begin your journey into downloadable content. This is the biggest bang for your buck imo. I haven't played it much. But when I finally sat down and treated it like a real game and got the hang of it, I realized it was a very well done game. This is what I will be playing when I'm done posting here. Or FFXIII. They even added two new maps recently, for free!

Game: Hasbro Family Game Night Price: EXPENSIVE Company: EA Players: 1-4, pretty sure... Leaderboards: Where applicable, it tracks your top scores. You are awarded standard PS trophies and in game trophies. You can view these, on display in your virtual game room. Online play: Yes
Online activity: Low
Comments: Hosted by Mr. Potato Head, Hasbro's family game night packages 7 classic Hasbro board games in one very convenient and slightly pricy download. Boggle, Yahtzee, Connect 4, Sorry, Sliders, Scrabble and Battleship.
The games come with standard rules and when possible, a variation on the rules. For instance, Super Weapons Battleship is very fun : D
To buy or not to buy, Markus: Yes! This replaces all of your classic board games. Pfft, you know they are all dusty and tainted yellow from the cigarette smoke! I think it was a 30$ download but worth it imo, I've played this the most hehe.

Agreed, though not everyone will be into Monsters. Depends on if they can stand the tower defense genre or not (I love it. lol)
$30?[/i]
I had to look that up to make sure it wasn't a typo.
There are completing products out there that have literally three times as many games as that for less than half the price (Hoyle Puzzle & Board Games being a practical example.)
That's insane.

Sometimes the descriptions are short and I'm too much of a big kid to download all of the demos and try them out like that first. I agree 30$ is a lot for a PSN DL but we aren't losing any sleep over it lol... What sucks though is if the game you mentioned has the same or similar games as Hasbro's does... That means I paid for a name brand. That bothers me a bit hehe

Yeah, an L slipped in there somehow. Minor typo. If you have people that you'll play them with and you think you'd all have fun with them, then you're mileage will vary. That goes without saying for any multiplayer-reliant game. It might be a fantastic value for you if you plan on playing it weekly with friends/family over a few beers or something. I just cringe at being asked to pay $30 for handful of cheaply ported boardgames when there are compilations on other platforms (Wii, DS, PS2, PC, any handheld device ever made,) that cost half that. ...And I wouldn't exactly call Hoyle an off-brand; they're owned by the US Playing Card Company.Nearly every family in America probably has something USPC branded in their home.

Definitely agree with Sieg here. 30 bucks is too much for board games. You can probably get the same package and more for 10 bucks for pc. I'm pretty sure the Wii has some better deals too.
IDK if you guys ever played "Wild Arms", but if you didn't its a great classic RPG well worth the 4.95 I paid for it. It's one of those RPG's that I actually played through and enjoyed thoroughly from beginning to end.

Yea, it's only 30 bucks lol... And it's pretty much the only thing my girl plays. I hawked the Wii awhile back and if I got it on the PC no one would ever play it, not even me. I also don't think the PC versions were not cheaply ported over. I mean if this game was cheaply ported over to the PS3, I think the PC versions are probably crap. Wii might of been a cheaper choice. I've wasted more money discussing this then it actually cost to buy it lol... I'd be curious to know the actual prices of these board games.

Shovelware is shovelware, regardless of the platform... it's just some platforms have more than others.
A quick search on google shows most of them for about $5 apiece. [Edit: "them" being the specific board games in the Hasbro package.. though they want $40 for the PS3 version of Monopoly. Sorry for the confusion.]
Missed out on Wild Arms, but as an avid RPG collector, always wanted to play it. I saw it in the PSN store and put it on my list for when I have $5 to blow. lol
