Wow. I figured that knowing some of you, that there would be a perpetual anime/manga thread here in Off-topic, just because it seems to be a mutual interest of many. However, Off-topic suffers from an enormous amount of turnover, I can't believe how many off-topic threads we churn through. I stopped looking for the manga thread about 8 pages in; we need a search function... (Tempus, I'm looking at you)
Anyway, the reason I'm writing this is to turn your attention to a little-known piece of manga that's been sitting on my hard drive for a long time that I've recently rediscovered. Has anyone read Gantz?
It is far and away one of the best manga I have ever read. Don't bother with the anime if you have the opportunity. Given its relative obscurity, it might be difficult to find, but it's definately worth the effort to look it up. Alright, alright, I'm kind of good at these things, so I'll try to spare you the effort:
Volumes 1-7 can be found at Omanga.
Here's volumes 13-18 at loserbait. Donate to this guy, he's doing the world a service. link.
Don't read 13-18 until you get your hands on 8-12!!! It may be tempting to skip ahead, but don't! There's a lot of important stuff that happens ><. I'm trying to track down the interim chapters, but rizon seems to be down right now.
If you love 1-7 soooo much and are willing to pay money (to people unrelated to the people who actually did the work of scanslating Gantz -_-)... I know it's available at narutofan if you've paid that fee for that "premium" account. (Whereby they basically sell you stuff that scanslators have done). I don't have such an account, but I know you can find the missing chapters there. I guess you can think of it as paying for the convenience of having someone archive all that stuff, so you can come back for it now. However, I should note (should this impugn on your sensibilities) that some of the manga to be found in that "premium" account is licensed in the US and (presumably) Canada.
If anyone finds anyone still hosting volumes 8-12, please PM me and I'll add the link above. If someone wants to host it or something (or if I like you well enough, I guess) I can do a direct transfer to you. My total Gantz holdings are around a gigabyte of infomration though (that's compressed); so I'm not doing that for everyone!
Anyway, I just thought I'd take the time to turn you guys on to this great series. Oh, and contents may be unsuitable to minors.
