I posted this on KI, so why not here too Basically, I think they suck for the following reasons. A LS (guild) has the ability of having one Shellholder and as many members and SH's (sackholder's) as they want, as long as the online limit doesn't exceed 64. You are able to communicate with these people, one by one via /tells or all at once over LS chat. My first problem with this is there is no way, for anyone, to be able distinguish the difference between a member who has been with me since July 2004 and the member that joined yesterday. Personally, I would like some more options. Some sort of a senior status pearl would be nice. My second problem is why 64 members? Wtf? I have been beating this around in my head for quite a while now... Why? I can't seem to find any good reason why they would of decided to limit the online capacity of a LS to 64... I solved my problem by creating another shell. We use this shell during Sky, forced pops, CoP missions... Pretty much in any situation where we dont want to flood the main shells chat channel and we don't want them flooding ours. But I really would of prefered to keep everyone in the same shell. The chat/communication system is also flawed. The LS message is too short. This is one of the few resources at my disposal to communicate with PS2'ers and the PC'ers who don't check forums. Would be great if I could get a paragraph in there. As it is, I can't get the entire weeks events in there. Do you know what it is like to answer the question 'Are we farming or popping this weekend?' 20 times? Lol. Why am I am not able to /tell all sackholder's? Or /tell all members? Or /tell member group xyz? Ok maybe now I am asking for a lot. But some options would be nice. Mass /tells would be damn cool /rant off

I don't think SE ever thought that LSs would grow to capicity, and beyond. 64 members...that's 3 alliances, plus 10. That's a lot of players in one group.
Imagine /tell capability like you mentioned... "Hmm, I need to start a party. /tell all 71 Hey, wanna party?" Could you imagine how annoying that could be? I agree, being able to /tell all sackholders would be great.
As for /tell member group...how much time before events would you have to set up said group? How many people would leave early and have to be removed? How many would show up late, and need to be added? With everything else you and the SHs do during events...that would be another thing to distract and annoy you.
100% I agree with the problem with the length of messages. But do you really want to get a paragraph-long /tell in the middle of a cutscene or mission?
To you, there are a lot of improvements that could be made, to another person, the communication system could be perfect. How much would they have to change it to make everyone happy?
...Markus, stop ranting. You make me actually have to think seriously XD

I agree with some of this. In fact, I'd take it a step further. Why is it that we have to schedule all of our shit on a website that anyone on PS2 or operating a computer according to the TOS can't readily check while playing ffxi?
There should be a menu system. It could include a calendar, a comment area, a message board, you would access through the Linkshell menu.
They could even go further, they could show a list of all the current pearlholders in the linkshell (online or offline), their join date (doubt they'd have that info for existing pearls).

I have always thought this issue was flawed. As a SH, it was very difficult to discuss details and events together. Also, the /lsmes should have a better capability to inform the LS of weekly events rather than having to update it daily. I love Tarick's idea of a calendar ingame for LS and/or LS member info with time joined and such.

Cmon Krazi, where are you? I expected you to be all over this statement. LOL Seriously though, I agree with Aly. I don't think SE could have imagined that linkshells would have become as complex as they are. And EO is even more structured than most. As for the date when people joined, I understand how you might find that useful but on the flip side, there are very new members who are much more active than long term members so ranking by time in LS may cause dissension in the ranks. One thing the powers that be did in my former LS was that we had a SH shell. We met once a week in game to discuss whatever needed to get done for the week and the LS leader or any one of the SH's could call an emergency meeting if necessary. The problem with that is that you have one more item clogging up your inventory and going into that shell takes all of the SH's out of the main shell for an indeterminate amount of time. I wish I had plausible solutions to your problems Mark but I don't. you make some very valid points though^^ Good ranting lol.

The one thing I hate about the game more than the economy is the linkshell system. SE throws monsters in the game that take massive coordination, and then just put a party line chat system in and no real guild/clan support at all. Fucking morons.
Btw, it would NOT be that hard to code... Ive done it myself on a small scale with MUDs. EQ has done it on a larger scale. If SE ripped off even half the decent idea's from EQ's system we'd have an expotentially easier time.

I've heard that LS were not meant to be the equivalent of other games' guilds, which is pretty much what they've become more or less.
The mere fact that you can have more than 1 LS doesn't lend itself to LS (guild) loyalty IMHO.

2+2=4 4+4=8 8+8=16 16+16=32 32+32=64 64=64=128...
they probably stopped at 64 cause 128 seemed like too much... to them

Chat can get full FAST. You have the LS going and all the shouts of the party's going. Adding another "chat" line would help. Alliance chat, that way you can talk to the alliance and not spam ever body. Party chat would stay in your small group of 6. Alliance would be for the alliance.
