As some of you probabaly already know, I'm currently living overseas - but will be leaving on the 13th of January to return to the states. This will put me out of touch for quite some time, as I have to wait on my computer to be shipped in addition to finding and signing up for an online service once I arrive. Compounding this is the fact that I'm actually moving again shortly after arriving.
So now the bad news...
Installing Battlefield 2 last night, Direct X 9.0c recieved a catastrophic error that left me unable to rollback or uninstall it. Which leaves me... with a broken copy of DX9, unable to be altered in any way... and since DX9.0c is the most current available - upgrading isn't an option either.
Only real solution to this is to reinstall windows... and here's the kicker... I no longer have my originanl copies of the Final Fantasy XI Zilhart or Chains of Promathia installation disks. Which means... I'm not going to be able to log on in the near future. I DO have a working copy for the PS2 - but I don't own CoP for PS2 (so even though I'm running a valid key, I have no installation disk to get the files -on to- the PS2.)
I'll try to make a point of popping in as often as I can on the PS2 to assist in event runs, ect. - but this puts a huge crimp in the accessibility I have for the game. Of course, given my location, I can't just run out and buy a new set of discs... US Army/Airforce Exchange Service doesn't carry it (the copy of Zilhart they had two weeks ago was still retailing for $40 - in the states, you can get BOTH expansions for $30 together.) Hopefully... my replacement discs will arrive in the mail before I leave.. but it will take at minimum around a week.
I'm sorry for not having the advanced notice to warn anyone in advance, I'll update my situation as I can and try to make a point of getting the PS2's patches up to date so I can participate in upcoming events.

Don't sweat it Sosa. Aidar and I went through the same hassle when we PCS'd here from the states. We were gone for almost three months. Our P/X has the disks for the same price as the states though. Want me to send them to you?

/sigh... it's worse than that now. My bootable copy of windows 2k is "missing," I had given it to a friend (now living in El Paso, TX,) and forgotten about it. So... I'm talking to you now via the wonders of Linux MandrakeMove, the only bootable CD I currently have in posession. If I can't bum one off of a local friend in the next day or two - I'll be forced to wait for both my incoming copy of FFXI and the OEM version of Windows XP Pro I ordered from TigerDirect early in Decemeber (which has still not made it here.)
So now, at best, it seems that I'm going to need a fresh install of Windows on a seperate HD - and I'll have to extract the data from my current one later since I didn't have a chance to back it up. Thankfully, I -do- have an unformatted 200gb hard drive lying around, as it was specifically waiting for the aforementioned copy of XP...
What a fucking headache. I hate Windows. All this over a corrupt driver... >.<

I know air force ammo troops are good at "handling" large, potently dangerous/explosive material...
Who would slap Bill Gates upside the head if given the chance?
Who would give Bill Gates sexual pleasure for a "Chance" at some monies?
Who doesn't know who Bill Gates is?
Why do I keep going off topic almost on my first post in a thread almost ever time?
Question, questions...

And yet so few answers... so here's another question. Where's my fackin' package? >.>
Postal clerk stated that they haven't recieved mail in three days. Mind you, we're in the middle of a war, the military prioritizes shipments, ect. But... err... we're not talking about a station in Afghanistan, or Iraq... or ALASKA. We're talking about Belgium, the relative center of Western Europe and home of the damned NATO -headquarters.- And they haven't gotten mail in three days. *sighs heavily*
Oh well... I'm going to try hard to get on my PS2 tonight, but unless I can scrounge up a USB keyboard it may not do a whole lot of good... lol
Hope to see some of you online very soon. ><

You can type with the ingame keyboard. Hit R1 and it will bring up all the letters and numbers... I became "good" at typing. made a macro saying "I don't have a keyboard, please excuse my slow typing. (this is a macro)"
You'll go crazy after the first 5 mins of using it. But, its better then nothing.

Actually, someone beat you to that. It happened here in Bruxxels, (That's BRUSSELS to you "real" Americans ) Belgium a few years back. It was great, I relished every moment of it. I'm really sorry I couldn't make it to the Zilhart run after all, guys... long story short is that the OEM version of Windows I ordered never did come in (it was most likely stolen,) and reinstalling windows corrected the problem, only to yield another big issue... the new graphics card I've ordered is defective. 12 hours of reinstalling drivers (and then, consequently repairing the windows installation as I would become unable to do much of anything even on VGA or Safe modes,) and a correspondance with BFG Tech (the maker of my new pimpin but broken GF4 6800 GT OC card,) confirmed that the problem was most likely due to a defective card. Fantastic. So now I have to pray that I get TWO $250+ items forwarded correctly to my stateside address without getting lost or stolen in the mail. On the positive side... I reinstalled my old FX 5600 and reinstalled windows, so I'm back up and running again... albeit with no functioning software due to the problem outlined above. I'm sorry guys... this means I'm probably not going to get a chance to pop in and say goodbye before I leave, as I had intended... but thanks to everyone that's welcomed me into EO and put up with my oft-confusing mannerisms. I'm looking forward to returning as soon as possible, pending arrival of my equipment and the subscription of a broadband connection. I hope to see you guys in February! Take care EO! ^^
