And here's where everyone has to take a cold hard look at themselves and why they play. FFXI has always been about major time sinks. It takes forever to get that first job to 75, it takes forever to get your first crafting skill to 60. It takes forever to raise fishing. It takes forever to get rank 10 in 3 nations, your zilart missions completed, Sea access, to get all the god gear you want, to get all your AF, to get all your AFV2, and to make money to get the awesome gear you want.

If these things didn't take forever, would you still be playing right now? What would you be doing if you already had all the uber gear, and all the money you'd ever need?

If you play this game purely for the partying system, then you should see by now that you don't need uber gear. If you play it for the quests, same thing. If you play it because you have an insatiable need to drive yourself toward the best gear, then yes, part of the reason you play this game is so that you can farm to get that gear.

I take pride in the items I worked hard for. Yes, they are just pixels that represent wasted hours of my life. But they are part of the appeal of this game. If that is not what you want to do, then you have 3 options.

a) move on to a game that suits you better, like WoW.
b) move on without the great gear.
c) buy gil.

Sadly, it's obvious by now that many couldn't resist the recent gil sale online. Like Krazi said, it will take a little bit, and prices will stabilize across the board. Does this mean that they will be lower? Not necessarily, but it does mean that the inflation will be for the most part carried through from the High ticket items to the low end items.

What I'm trying to say is, this game, what it's about, what makes it appealing or not appealing, has not changed with this recent price hike. If you're not having fun now, then you probably weren't having fun before. I've never played WoW, and I'm sure there are many who would find it more appealing. Why would you subject yourself to a game you hate, when you have other choices?

I dont really concider it a waste. If you weren't playing this game, would you be saving the world? Writing the best novel every written? Discovering the cure for Cancer or AIDS? Nope.... you'd be watching TV, or cruising the net for porn or playing another game. Frankly, this is the best waste of time i've found, it keeps me out of bars, and has saved me alot of money in the near 2 years i've been playing ^^

I for one am just alittle bored of hearing about how the economy sucks in game... if we're gonna talk about economy, lets point out that gas is back to 2.15 a gallon here.. dubya sucks, and he fucked the economy.

Yeah, think of it as you will but everyone.... EVERYONE is born, finds a diversion, until they're unable to physically do anything then die. the end. Some do great things, some dont. All of them divert there attention.

lol, have you taken a look at my gear... it isn't the greatest but it is decent so i know that better then anyone. driving yourself forward to get the best gear and all that other shit you were talking about can be gone about in a manner other then job like..... to even consider this game a job because you have to waste so much time doing random and pointless shit in the quest of what the game society thinks is correct does turn it into a job... its like all the Chinese people building pointless little knick knacks to ship over to American consumers.... that is a job and pretty pointless. Games that allow you to move forward and still get things that are considered "uber" with out having to do the ridiculous things you have to do in FfXI and i'm not saying this game is a time waste, i can see how you could become very defensive if someone tells you oh shit look you've wasted XXXdays playing a game that will get you no where... i agree with codeiene in that sense.... another point is you are taking this game way to seriously if you need to defend its asinine system and community standards. People who do that almost seem to be defending a personal attack on their character like i really give a shit about any of this... how could you possibly enjoy all the rings they make you hop through you don’t’ have anything to complain… at all? Yeah all the economy talk is getting pretty boring as well but a lot of things are.

"Why would you subject a game to you hate" because everyone on FFXI is a fucking masochist… just take a look at my room mate…. He has no life, in reality no friends and hates FFXI he even says it…. He hates the xping he hates a lot of things but for some losers its more then a game for them and just watching him makes me sick about this game I fucking hate it, nothing good will come of it for my room mate he barely pays the bills and barely eats anything and all he does is play FFXI and sleep and work…. When I say that I mean that literally I know a few other people say that but what kind of fucking life is that.

I’m sorry but anyone who puts themselves through that is disgusting in my eyes. They will never accomplish any goals in their life or even have any passions besides FFXI…. Even if you could call FFXI a passion it is not one worth any praise. I could go on and on about this but I think I’ll stop myself here.

Correct me if i'm wrong, I could be reaading you wrong. But are you saying the farming gil and stuff is a waste of time and takes away from the game?

It is the game; and has been a staple of the game since day one. Anyone else remember FF1 on NES, killing Ogre's outside of Elfland for hours to be able to afford the 4000 gold Silver Sword, before you went into Marsh cave?

As for the economy, SE has successfully built a true-to-life representation of the economy... the players made what it is

Greed is why the economy has become what it is. Its still very workable however. Not just 1 items is increasing in value. Its general inflation across the board. Some things are inflated more then others but still it stands true. I find it easier today to make a million gil then it ever was in the past. I can make a million in a few hours. I haven't farmed or mined in months....simply reintroduction of old items at a higher cost is keeping me paid.

yeah, I see what your saying. But unfortunately farming/crafting/gardening is part of the game. I personally hate farming/mining. Can't stand it. But saying "not may people play.... so they can farm" is like saying "I dont play frogger so I can cross the lake! I only want to cross the road!!" Its all part of the game.

I aggree, I hate it. I agree the economy sucks, but the other parts of the game are fun enough I dont worry about what I have to do to continue the fun stuff.

By the same token, I dont like working, if I could get angel to bang me if I was homeless and jobless I would. But she requires I have steady work, and pay bills... as Dave Chapelle said, "Men dont care about the shiny cars and stuff, women happen to like shiny cars so men buy them.. 'oh that car's nice' *snatch!*'gotcha bitch!'"

lol i don't play frogger so i can cross the lake, that gave me a good chuckle...lol yeah you are right and when i said people who play FFXI are masochist.... another thing about my friend... i know what you mean and i agree i'm not saying playing FFXI is any worse then other diversion but anything can be taken to an extreme that is un=neccesary and FFXI is only a game in the end... ice skating, reading, going to convetion socializing and all those things yeild something more productive... even if that number is very small it is still something more(all except those who drink all day) I'm just of the school where i believe life is worth living to its fullest, ya know get out expereince the world/travel go on trips/ for me ride my motorcycle and see the country and the world... go to school learn new things be a powerful individual... but all i see him being is weak, not willing to get up from hit bed/couch whatever and live life he'd rather live it through a game then actually experience it.
