Final Fantasy XIII will be released on December 17, 2009 for 9,240 yen ($100). And don’t worry about the price. Most games released in Japan sell for approximately 9,000 yen. The stateside release will still be our equivalent of $60. The game is still on track for a Spring (i.e. April to June) 2010 release on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms in Europe and North America. They are always late and always get us our games last. Sucks ass imo. And they don't really do a good job with the translations or voice overs either lol... So yea, gimme!

I heard 8800 yen and the average price in Japan is 6800 yen? Depends on the genre of game. RPGs, especially ones with such high end 3d graphics and cg work like FF games have, retail for ~$100 worth in yen in Japan. They're high demand games and expensive to make and the price reflects that. Other game types, like life-sim/trainer games, ren'ai games, some action games, etc sell for less, maybe even as low as ~$30-40 worth in yen. The rest ride in the median range of about the same as US games, ~$60 worth. Can we say... hawt yuri luvvin? :-D

As disappointing as a 6-7 month release gap is, it's par for the course with Square-related products. I remember reading a press release back around the time FFXI's ToAU expansion came out. The short version is: the NA market is a much larger share of their overall profits than the Asiatic market, and they said they were going to focus on redoubling their efforts to provide simultaneous release dates for future localized versions, or at least try to come as close as possible.
I about fell out of my chair laughing. I'm all about avoiding a rush-job to ensure a quality product (I'm looking at you, Champions) but Square-Enix has one of the worst track records in the industry as far as localization turn-around time. It's exactly the reason I haven't allowed myself to get excited about the release of FFXIII - I'll get excited for it when I actually see it on store shelves.
On the plus side, it gives the Japanese community another 6-7 months to start drawing FFXIII pr0n before we even see the game... <-<;;
