I have to confess that I've not yet played the game... and I was keeping even more tempered expectations than usual. That said, the reviews are in and Batman: Arkham Asylum is being universally hailed as one of the best action games of the year, and one of the best comic-based games ever made. I suppose I'll see what kind of funds I can scrape together and pick it up to see what all the buzz is about. Anyone have any hands-on experience with it?

Yeah supposedly the team were made up of hardcore Batman fans who respected the lore (probably at least the core creators, I dunno if they could speak for the entire team). But they really wanted it to feel like a Batman game and not just a "random action hero who happens to look like Batman" game. Lots of variations on the attacks that are context sensitive to go along with his skills at fighting, using stealth and setting up sneak attacks from behind, etc. It really seems like the Batman game for Batman fans. Oh I think they also said injuries will cause rips in his costume and such that won't just magically disappear so by the end of the game it'll really look like he's been through hell and back.

I played the demo too. Great graphics and fluid animation, the combat is easy, but fun. There's alot of MGS style sneaking around to look forward to, and cool batman tools and tricks to use. I think they have all the voices from the original animated series too, i.e. mark hamill as the joker

Ooh I didn't know that. Mark Hamill was f'in amazing as the Joker. And Kevin Conroy's Batman voice is always the one I hear in my head when reading the comics. hehe He did Batman and Bruce Wayne voices perfect... probably why he was the voice in so many of the series. And looking, yeah he's voicing Batman in Arkham Asylum. Awesome.
