I suck at the combat in that game. I can get to the police station just fine but I haven't been able to get past that point... I've had the game since like Christmas... so yeah... <.< I can beat the pants off Silent Hill 1-4 and Origins though. Well ok... the final boss fight in 4 is kinda tough... but yeah.

I played the first one iirc, I haven't played one of these in ages. I believe they have had a few sequels. Definitely one the best horror movie type franchises out their imo...
So many games, so little time!

Yeah the knife works great for most things... those guys with the big blades for heads though... "slash slash slash" suddenly it grabs me and instantly kills me by slicing me in half. wtf@instant-kill. And I can't even use a cheat code to get past the part I'm having trouble with. No way to turn on invincibility or infinite ammo or anything. Frustrating to no end.

RE = my fav.
RE4 did signify the move away from survival horror to more of an action horror, and 5 sealed the deal. They're still good games though.

I loved the Fear Effect in 3, where if you turned it on whilst connected to Dolby surround sound, you can hear disturbing noises all around you that have nothing to do with the actual monster you'll fight, but are successful in making you wanna cry

I enjoyed RE4, I didn't really mind the change in style. I was actually more "scared" during RE4 than RE1-3+CV. Every time one of the bad guys lit a stick of dynamite... or several got in too close, or worse, when headshots started making the bugs pop out of their heads and bite your head off... I really felt apprehensive. I didn't really enjoy the reaction shots (it's kinda natural to take a breather during a cutscene... so suddenly getting your throat sliced open makes you crap your pants... lol) but I was ok with them when I knew they were coming. I had to play RE4 through like twice with invincibility on before I was comfortable enough with the game mechanics to not get my ass kicked by scrub-zombies. After that I played once with the saved up health items and better weapons without cheats... then I started a fresh game and played without cheats and was able to do it, so I was happy. I even started playing it again when my computer was kaputz. I'm about 2/3 of the way through, I think. A bit after the point where Leon tries to rescue Ashley (again) and the little run makes the trapdoor open beheath him. haha Still consider that whole scene to be funny. But as far as Silent Hill... I consider 3 to be the creepiest. I remember being totally freaked out by the mirror room. 2 wasn't so much of a mind-fuck, except when you think about the whole thing as a whole. Then you start wondering what was real and what were delusions... haha. I haven't bothered getting RE5 yet, mostly because I'm fairly certain I'd probably be stuck 5 minutes into the start of combat, continually getting killed by the first scrub zombie that I ran into. The lack of any way to cheat on the current next gen consoles has totally killed my ability to play action games. I'm not especially good at them but I still enjoy playing them... so I'm kinda screwed.

Get RE5 for the 360 and I'll play it with you online. I've actually been looking for someone to play it with for a while.
I think the meh mechanics of resident evil 1-3 actually made the game scarier. RE4's refined combat system gave you more control over your environment. I really hated the button sequence scenes in re4 and 5... sometimes you have practically no time to react. What I did love about RE4 though was playing it through on professional with 0 items/money/etc from a prev playthough. That was challenging and fun.
