I figure this forum needs some Valve love, so why not with the most fun survival horror game to date! What have YOU cleared on Expert?(like there ARE any other difficulty settings!) I still haven't cleared Dead Air, but I have the rest.(Split screen+system link, 4 peeps)

I haven't had much play with it but to be honest....it was incredibly meh to me. The game mechanics are that of an average shooter. I also hope Gabe Newell dies Can't stand that dude lol.

Did you play it online with friends or in the single player mode? The two don't even come close to comparing. While I agree with the fact that the actual game mechanics behind L4D are nothing new, it's an entirely different experience when you play it with friends. The social aspect is really the best reason to play. Personally, I enjoyed the game... but I'm not thrilled I paid full price for it on Steam, considering what you get and I can be fairly sure I'm not touching the forthcoming rip-off that is Left 4 Dead "2." I was also really disappointed by the fact that "teamwork" at higher difficulties basically boils down to EVERYONERUNTOTHEENDOFTHELEVELASFASTASYOUCAN and exploiting the geography and collision mapping, which completely removes any element of strategy that was actually in place in the earlier difficulties.

Thats how everyone tries to sell the game to me. Coop. Coop anything is more fun, but there are better games with coop. Give me a good single player too! I'm a gamer...I'm paying good money...so what if I'm greedy.
Uncharted 2. GOTY worthy single player, GOTY worthy multiplayer, GOTY worthy coop all for 60 bucks.
Why is everyone else having such a hard time with that?

Generally, I'd agree.
That said, lack of a good single player campaign doesn't necessarily mean the game fails on every level.
If the main selling point of the game was the single player campaign, it would be a different story... but the focus is very clearly placed on the multiplayer game.
Is it fair to expect both from a game? Well, that depends on what kind of claims the game is making. Is Fat Princess a bad game because it focuses on delivering a multiplayer experience? How about the Battlefield series? Battlefield games typically have a single player game, but the experience is severely lacking compared to playing it in a league or other organized setting.
My point is, different games focus on delivering different experiences. Comparing a game like Left 4 Dead to a game like, say, Uncharted, Half-life or Halo is comparing apples to oranges. You can draw broad similarities (they're both fruit,) in an attempt to classify them, but it doesn't really have anything to do with how they taste.

Fat Princess was 15 bucks. The downloadable Battlefield was the same price. I've no quandries with them and what they offer due to the price.
While I agree you can't compare the games, you can compare your satisfaction between them. I'm not comparing the games at all other then what they offer for the same price.
I mean we all know when it comes to publishing, they are looking for the lowest bidder with the best idea that costs the cheapest to make and sells the most. (see 3rd party shovelware Wii games)
Uncharted is a 1st party game so Sony will pay the extra money, I'll give you that. However they took a completely single player game (uncharted 1) and added multiplayer and coop missions. Not only did they add them, they added them right and they are freaking good.
Halo 3 did an awesome job of making a great single player, coop and multiplayer.
RE5 made a great single player, great coop and meh multiplayer (but at least they put some effort in it)
Gears of War was great at all 3.
There is no reason that at this gen, we can't expect all 3 on a game that is built from the ground up to support all 3. Seeing Left for Dead 2 come out like it is, it further leads me to believe that this dev is at least aiming at making money instead of making a great game with as little development possible and plans to ride the coattails of its cult followers.

I actually hadn't played the game for a long time myself... until a bunch of friends dragged me into playing it last night. They finally got around to releasing the support for open player content.
We had a blast. It was probably the most fun I've ever had with the game... instead of the same, formulaic 'rush to the end ignoring everything' and 'totem pole or terrain exploit over here,' we actually had to explore and cover each other constantly. A lot of the maps were outright harder, as well, and we found ourselves on the edge of our seats more than once.

Yeah the single player game is only practice for me, while laot of games are better coop, I'd have to say no other game truly pulls off the need, where sticking together is the only way to survive. In a dark house at night surrounded by your closest friends, it does an amazing job of scaring the living sh*t outta me time and time again. As long as noone whines about me using the hunting rifle. I don't f'ing care if we're inside, try and stop me from using it. *boom*...headshot....
