I also play WoW. The biggest plus is the soloing... no LFG for ever trying to get exp... All the "Challenge" is in the end game Instances. 40 raids and what have you... and the Flying mounts are only going to be in the new zone. Outlands, or whatever the lands beyond the dark portal.

I played for a while during our last drama... Not the most recent one, one before that. ANYWAYS I was level 9 in like 2 hours. It does have its strong points but is lacking in challenge. Getting to 10 is pretty easy it definatley gets harder in the 30's on up, play on a PvP shard if you want even more of a challenge. Always having to watch your back because at any moment 20 people (sometimes literally lol) can come and pwn your ass while your xp'ing. The game is meant to be fun, not drain your life away which is why I hate when people say its too easy lol. I currently play Horde on Azshara with 2 other friends from FFXI, and I play alliance on Illidan with Ionis (I've been mostly on Azshara though this time around). So look me up Krazi if you do end up playing Name is Stahn on Azshara, or Stahn/Morandela on Illidan.

WoW was fun for about a month, it just wasnt challenging at all. In 1 month i got 1 char to 60 and another few to 25+ just in casual playing. It's a good distraction but no where near as deep or fun game as FFXI. Although being able to solo as any job is kinda nice. I say give it a try but I know you will be back ;D To get 60 in a month requires like 10 hours a day every day minimum lol >< so that is not so casual. And that is just straight grinding so it couldent have been that much fun anyway lol.

EO > PvP and quests. 'nuff said We could make an EO guild in WoW! how many people play? that's not a bad idea... My bf runs a social guild on Proudmore called "TheNobodys".... our slogan is "Once you realize you're nobody, the better off you'll be..."

I haven't played in a while, but I still have an active subscription.
Got a 53 Paladin on Destromath server and a 39 (I think) Shaman on Magtheridon.
Battlegrounds are a BLAST. So much better than Ballista IMHO, though the general concept is similar. Pretty much the main thing that's keeping me from cancelling my subscription.

lol well the first thing we need to do is figure out a home shard for everyone in EO. Like, whoever starts to play from now on should go to that shard, and current players should try to play on that shard as their time permits. I do kinda wanna level War or Rogue XD

OK, I'll be honest. WoW has both a lot of positives, as well as negatives...
PROS: - All classes can solo, you rarely require lots of time to get something done until higher levels - The crafting system is very stable - if you have the ingredients, you -will- succeed - The world is fairly large, there are tons of quests to follow and areas to check out - The PVP aspect has a lot of depth to it, along with a comprehensive ranking system (including rewards) - The game has a very stylized, almost cartoony feel (see cons) - Equipment is usually wide open for most job classes, nothing is really "must have 1337 gear" until the higher levels - Most of the GOOD equipment in the game can be obtained through questing - Items follow a "Bind on Pickup" or "Bind on Equip" rule, depending on rarity... these items can NEVER be traded after they are equipped or obtained, which is an ingenious system for helping to curb the nasty trends of NM and 1337 gear camping in most MMORPG's - The jobs are fairly fun to play, easy to get into, and allow for a fairly wide range of customization thanks to the "talents" system
CONS: - Although all jobs can solo, not all of them can solo well. - Quests are usually a very simple affair... either courier missions, or 'hunt and gather' affairs. - The exceptions to this are generally Raid / Instance quests, which will suck up a huge time block and do not always provide a reward worth the payoff. - Grinding is still a reality, it just takes longer to set in. - If you don't like the World of Warcraft game setting, you probably never will. (I was never huge on the setting, but I gave it a chance.. it does have its charms, but I'm not a huge fan of Metzen's artistic style either.) - Since equipment is usually a wide-open affair, there aren't really that many pieces that are outstanding. The ones that are will basically sell out the roof on the open market. - Jobs are easy to get into, but very shallow. All of the jobs have a very generic feel to them, and for the majority of the game, you can get away with an instance win by using a group of 5 Paladins, 5 Mages, 5 Warriors, ect. - Currently, jobs are broken (as to be expected in a first year MMOG.) They're working on it, but it's coming along very slowly. - Stereotyping is absolutely rediculous. Hunters are almost taboo in high level groups. Druids are stereotyped as 12-year n00bs playing naked elf chicks, ect. The vast majority of paladins neither heal nor buff (these being two of their most attractive features.) - It's a damned good thing you can solo as any job, because unless you're questing for a piece of 1337 gear - you will probably NEVER see a group until at least level 35-40. - The crafting system is very shallow. You're usually better off selling materials than making things with them, if you're trying to turn a profit. - Several crafts are broken, and have very little (if any) market. Engineering comes to mind... (although it's useful for Hunters and Paladins.) - Questing starts off fun but will get old fast There's not a lot to break up the monotony, and at times you'll find yourself grinding simply because it beats running all over the world to fill up 5% of your EXP bar. - PVP is hit or miss. Thankfully, there are different types of servers (Full PVP, Flagged PVP only, RP servers, RP PVP) to help cater to this. - If you don't like PVP, you will gain absolutely nothing from battlegrounds, but will miss out on some of the best gear in the game simply due to lack of participation. - PVP is currently pretty unbalanced. As a protection spec paladin, the only two classes in the game I have trouble dealing with 1v1 are binding totem shamen (since I have no real ranged attack) and Hunters that specialize in pet mastery. Shamen *can* be rediculously overpowered in group situations (but are not invincible.) - Although your job of choice will continually grow and evolve, it gets tiring quickly. You'll constantly bounce around between your different characters until you finally stick one out and hit 60, only to repeat the process on a different character. - Rinse and repeat. - WoW is almost as bad as City of Heros, in terms of the average maturity level of the common player. The people that shout in Lower Jeuno put most of the chumps in Goldshire to shame.

Sosa, it's not that bad lol
Look, imho, to play, enjoy, and succeed at FFXI, you need to be a hardcore loyal gamer/slave to it. WoW isn't like that, which is why a lot of FFXIers don't find enjoyment in it. But, when you need a little break, want a little more instant gratification, WoW hits the spot.
Also of note: Many ppl I know who left FFXI for WoW just weren't able to cut it in FFXI. They found it either boring or too hard. In the end, I really feel that any MMORPG you play is more about the ppl you're friends with in game, and who you get to play with than the actual game itself. I think people would play 20 hours of pong if they were consistantly entertained by friends while playing lol

I wonder if meeka is ever coming back to FF.... =(
She seems to like WoW so much. More seriously, she does have a point. FF is obviously designed for people who spend a large amount of time each week playing it. WoW was designed for the more casual players. They are almost aimed at different audiences.

Now tell me, how long does it take to set up and complete a rank 5 mission? XD But yeah, they are different types of games so I suppose its not so fair to be comparing them all the time.

That's really what I was trying to say, meeka. It's not that I think WoW is a bad game, it's just a little too shallow for my personal tastes. FFXI is a world with a thousand layers to it, everything has an underlying complexity that can be understood with a little effort, but takes real dedication to master. That's simply the type of challenge I like in my games... but I can't count the number of times I've said, "Damn, I only have 3 hours. I can't do anything tonight." WoW is aimed for casual gamers. You can play it hardcore, but you'll be disappointed after awhile.
Like you said, it's all about the friends you play with. I met a lot of good people in both games, but in the end... I always miss the depth of FFXI's job system.
Edit: Spelling.
