Nobuo Uemtasu. Two videos documenting his time @ SE and the work he's done on the FF tracks. From opera to death metal. Nobuo does it all. Pretty amazing.

thanks for posting that! I totally have several of his songs on my i-pod, haha. The first video is a must see. My God the nostalgia from those old old console games. Immediate goosebumps. And the music is just seared into my conscious. I don't think I could forget it if I tried. Do you remember the Legend of Final Fantasy II for the Gameboy? I doubt it. You were really young. We bought that before leaving for my 2nd trip (your first) to Gaspe to visit Big Ba (yea that's right I said it). I hogged it the whole time. Oldest ftw. But that game was pretty damn good too and also had great music, they mention it in video 1. Good music on a 8bit system and portable systems... *praise Nobuo*

I totally remember that and thought of that exact trip to Gaspé, and how one of us saved over the other's game once, and how hard Asura was.

You know he is soley doing the soundtrack for FFXIV. maybe the music won't suck then! As long as it doesn't play like "MMO's for Dummies" like another popular MMO I know of

As much as I respect and admire him, I would have to truthfully say that Uematsu has had less of an impact on my work and outlook on things than Yasunori Mitsuda. During the 16-bit era of gaming, he worked closely with Uematsu until leaving Square several years later. Mitsuda and Uematsu worked together to create what is often cited as one of the best RPG soundtracks of all time: Chrono Trigger. He later went on to score a lot of other really high-profile games such as Chrono Cross, Xenogears, the Secret of Evermore and the Mana series. I'm not saying this to take away from Uematsu's achievements, as he's clearly the more recognized of the two composers... but considering how intertwined their work often is, anyone that is a fan of Uematsu would do themselves a favor to check into his work as well. It also bears mentioning that the Final Fantasy Legend "series" is actually not part of the Final Fantasy continuity: they were actually part of the SaGa series, but mysteriously received a rename for the North American market due to bean-counters thinking it would cause the titles to sell better.

Sorry to reactivate an old thread, but it seemed odd to see a thread titles Nobuo Uematsu that didn't mention The Black Mages? They must have come up in the past but if you don't know about them then you're in for a treat!

though I prefer his more classical approaches, the rockband-symphony approach played very well into the games for boss fights
