Keep it minds its a rumor. Some industry insiders got a whiff of it happening. We do know that Sony has lowered the manufacturing cost of the PS3 and are posting profits....so it only seems that a price drop is next.

I appreciate what the system is doing to bring gaming to the casual masses but I can't reconcile the anger I feel as an 18 year supporter (I consider the NES my first gaming system, though we had an Intellivision II,) over Nintendo's ironic lack of evolution. Didn't you learn your lesson with the N64? That was it for me with Nintendo. Zelda OOT and the AKI/THQ wrestling games got me my money's worth, but nothing else on that system did anything for me (primarily because of an RPG bias). You were happy with GameCube? Common man, I don't buy that. Wii and the games are all about profit margin and catering to casual gamers, which we are not. Nintendo did it right for that audience, and for their shareholders. But again - that's not us, and it's not true gaming. The Squares and Sonys taking huge short term hits for putting out quality games and advancing the industry could be a thing of the past, because shareholders just aren't going to stand for it. Hopefully payoffs will come soon or it will be bad news for gaming.

Add Perfect Dark and Golden Eye and you pretty much have the only games truly worth playing on N64. I love how you mentioned the THQ/AKI wrestling games though haha, that would probably still (comparatively*) be my favourite wrestling game. If only Nintendo kept Final Fantasy/Squaresoft

Ogre Battle 64, Super Mario 64, StarFox 64, Super Mario 64, Wave Race 64, StarWars: Rogue Squadron, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64... F-Zero X...
There were quite a few decent games on the console over the years, but if you were looking for RPGs... well, then you're exactly right. Ogre Battle 64 was really the only decent RPG on the system in my opinion (Quest 64 was pretty awful.)
I started to notice the shift in their business strategy with the Gamecube. I owned a PS2 before a gamecube; I had already decided to try another console and went back to get a Gamecube after they got several first party (and a few third party) games worth playing, like F-Zero GX and Resident Evil 4.
I don't really hold any loyalty to a specific game company. I started with Nintendo, went through Sony and am Currently with Microsoft for the X-box 360, Sony for the PSP and Nintendo for the DS (and until recently, the Wii.) As always, I'll go where the games are.
As for whether or not I saw it coming... well, yeah. I did. It still disappoints me, however.

I refuse to let nostalgia have any effect on my gaming. Ok...I refuse to let nostalgia other then FF7 to have any effect on my gaming...
Nintendo lost me this year....the shovelware is atrocious. I gave it a shot...now it collects dust.
PS3 just surpassed the Gamecube in total sales actually. I also could not stand the gamecube.

Yeah, I picked one up, $49 from JC Pennys or something when they folded. Grabbed 4 games: Skies of Arcadia (7/10), Grandia 2 (8/10), Lodoss War (didn't like it or finish), and Shenmue (didn't like it or finish). Was a cool system, too bad it failed.

LOL, talk about old school...How about the Sega CD? With that stupid game where you rode in a tunnel....gosh I forget the name, but I think it's probably the first system with voice acting. Markuss pretty much nailed it with the systems, it's how I feel but I didn't burn out any of them. I never ever liked XBOX, not when it came out(the original), and still don't like it today. That controller is still a bulky piece of shit and tbh I never saw a game that just made me "buy" the system for it. It is strange...The xbox is the only video game system EVER that I have not owned....I've owned everything that came out since Nintendo(except the Neo Geo, ya remember that??? It was like $750 when I was 15......thats like fucking 1500 bucks today) On the bright side the xbox does have nice online features...but you pay...Not that 50 bucks a year matter, but it's the principle...you pay to play with a bunch of retarded 12 yr olds. IDC what any of you say, in my experience the ps3 community is wayyy more mature. The Wii my wife plays....once a month...maybe. Should have sold the damn thing when it was hot. Idk why I listen to her..... Sony took Nintendos spot in my heart. After the Gamecube (which I bought solely for Golden Eye) I just knew it was over for me and Nintendo. Then again I'm not the gamer I once was. I exclusively played RPGs, sports, shooters, fighters, in that order, and shooters where only once in a while. Fighters consisted pretty much of Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. My thing was RPGS and sports. Now today, I havent bought a sports game in 6 yrs.(I guess when I started playing MMORPGs I pretty much did nothing but play those), I'm still playing FFXII( I know its sad, its an awesome game and I always think of playing at work....then when I get home I dont, but I regress). I guess what I'm trying to say is, I'm not the gamer I once was, and my opinion shouldn't even count ;D Most my gaming consist of RPGS for the DS when I take public transportation to work. I also still play SOCOM: Confrontation about 2-3x a week.(but xbox still blows ) EDIT: I'll probably be back playing hard core when the next SE mmorpg comes out. By then my daughter should be 3 or 4 and I'll have more time too

To be frank, if you had looked at the gaming industry about three or four years ago, you'd be right. Your opinion wouldn't even be considered by most publishers. The market has undergone a drastic change to accommodate the influx of new "casual" gamers, however, creating entire new markets for the industry. Now, someone that plays games for maybe 2-8 hours a week is part of a hot demographic. On the other hand, once a hardcore gamer, always a hardcore gamer...
