Terrorism? www.worldofraids.com/news/140.htmlHere's a link to a video-report on a proposed plan by the government to infiltrate games such as a WoW and Second Life in order to observe Mmo's Cultural Norms as well as look out for "suspicious behavior." It also touches upon how the Government asked 3 major telephone companies (AT&T, Verizon, Qwest) to grant them access to their phone lines for the purpose of monitoring. When this was made public, they defended it saying it was necessary in order to prevent something like 9/11 from happening again. Qwest refused, AT&T and Verizon allowed. Although the interesting thing there would be the fact that they asked for this access months before 9/11 ever happened. The project's code-name is "Reynard" (renard is french for Fox) which the video says is about a Medi-evil legend/fox who outsmarts all the other animals. The idea of goverment officials going into like, top secret buildings with doors that require thumb prints as i.d. for entry and sitting down to play WoW for business, but gradually getting suckered into what the game actually has to offer is amusing >.>

what the fuck man.... what the fuck. Why? Is there no escape! Fucking big brother!
I guess we all have to learn how to deal with the fact that in the future there is no such thing as privacy- virtual or real. We need to colonize other planets to escape this eye in the sky bull shit.

Not a problem as long as there is "careful oversight?" What government are we talking about again?
They may not get suckered in the all the game as to offer, but I could see some of them trying gold selling on the side to earn some extra cash.
Next time you get a random whisper in-game it may not be about buying gold.
Can you just see them trying to adapt to the "culture and social norms" of the game? Every little thing is going to freak them out at first until they realize their eavesdropping on a raid group and not a terrorist cell.
Agent 1: Quick! Some try to figure out what TK means! Someone is planning an attack on it!
Agent 2: The Kremlin?
Agent 1 (drops coffee and powdered donut): Oh my god! Wake up the CIA, FBI, OSS, FSB, NSA, CNN, CBS, BBC and MIs 1 through 6! Code Red! Code Red!
(Server message): World server is temporarily down due to an unexpected issue. We are currently working to resolve the problem and will keep you updated as we know more.

Well you know al Qaeda are in a guild and they raid every thursday through saturday... they get together, raid Black Temple, and discuss who is an infidel and should burn in the fires of righteousness. And also who gets to be lazy and bring the paper plates and plastic cups to their next potluck zeal meeting. :-)

The Hubble has your ass. There is no escape!
As for them "monitoring" in-game communication... EL OH FREAKIN' EL. Good luck with that. Blizzard has hundreds of GMs hired for this purpose and are lucky to catch someone in the act. What are six government lackeys going to do with a bunch of chat logs and a parser?
No, they'll be forced to use in-game surveillance! The next time you see a level 6 Alliance rogue trying to look stealthy outside the gates of the Oggrimar, remember the "Massive Multiplayer Online Game Strategic Initiation Act."
