There are some pretty weird and funny english -> japanese translations as well. Hell, just about any time a gaijin speaks in Japanese it's funny. If you think it's funny when Japanese try to make the L sound and it comes out as an R sound, you should hear an english speaker trying to make a Japanese O sound. Well... if you were Japanese you'd find it hilarious, anyway. Essentially if you think the word "boat" has only one syllable you will likely never be able to say the Japanese O correctly. And the way english speakers make up their sentences and their word choice is often pretty funny as well. So it goes both ways. :-)
