lol that's great! I, too, played for quite awhile-- almost always as Protoss-- my goal was to create legions of Archons and then just decimate everything in my path. Sometimes it actually worked. Anybody hear anything about the sequel and/or the MMO they're supposedly making? I tried wading through the rumors but began to feel light-headed and somewhat nauseous, so I took a whiff of ether and woke up three days later in the parking lot of an IHOP covered in blueberry syrup. True story.

Wait until this weekend. Blizzard is officially announcing the title they're currently working on...
Polls (inaccurate as hell, but everybody loves polls... right?) suggest that the fans are pretty much convinced (~50% vs. all other possible options, such as Warcraft IV, Diablo III, next WoW expansion, ect.) that the announcement will reveal Starcraft 2. As much as I would love this, I refuse to get myself all worked up until they actually reveal what it is that they're working on. I mean, they're going to make what they want to make... and knowing their recent track record, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they announced, "Hey guys! We're un-canceling Starcraft: Ghost and porting it to the Gameboy Advance!"

Heh, Starcraft: Ghost is coming out for Wii..I can see it how..Its gonna be Metroid Prime with a Starcraft twist.
Anything Blizzard released will be pure gold, they have really yet to flop on any release.. Reading around and watching alot of G4 TV (I love that station) It seems that Diablo is in their sights for the next big title now that could change quickly and no idea what exactly will become of Diablo..another Hack and Slash point and click game..maybe an MMORPG to rope in the rest of the market that isn't currently playing World of Warcraft.
I'd love to see a "World of Starcraft" MMO or a Diablo MMO, I think that Blizzard is sitting on a mountain of gold..but they are waiting on their current golden ticket to fizzle out..and WoW is far from that milestone just yet.

Personally, I would have much rather have seen a Diablo MMORPG than a Warcraft one... I absolutely loved the lore, world, and artistic direction of the Diablo series. Warcraft on the other hand... while I've warmed up to it some (I don't completely loath it,) it never really caught my interest as much.
Of course, they could just hedge their bets and make Starcraft 2 a MMORTS... >.>;
Edit: Also, I forget where, but they have specifically mentioned that they have no intention of creating Diablo III, as they feel that the story arc has been completed in its entirety. Of course, they could always make a prequel, or simply ignore their previous press statement altogether...

I guess Flagship Studios is releasing Hellgate: London which is kind of a Futuristic Diablo. So there's sort of a sequel coming.

What, you mean you misplaced your legal backups? I owned like 3 legal copies of this game and Broodwar... I'd send you a cdkey if I had any idea where they were. Funnily enough, after more than 10 years, Blizzard is still releasing patches (albeit infrequently) for that game. The next upcoming one allows players to form custom ranked leagues. Would have been cool to mess around with that...

That's my desktop pattern right now.
I am GREATLY relieved to hear that they will be returning to the basic gameplay mechanics of the original starcraft, and ditching the hero/creeping garbage. It was a great idea in the context of WCIII in that it provided a unique experience with an interesting RPG twist, but I hated being forced to play that way.
Starcraft is, and always has been, a fast-paced game about massive battles and hard counters. Nothing is as thrilling as dropping a nuke/BC/Siege Tank combo on someone's ass, or pulling off a Dark Swarm + ling/ultra or hydra antiair rush.
The premise of returning to strategic gameplay that doesn't involve seeing who can level a damn hero faster makes me happy in special places. The demonstration of the new type of dynamic strategic effect terrain will have just got me even more excited. I have every confidence they're not going to release this until it's perfect, but it will be interesting seeing some of they ways they've changed the zerg and terran...

I'm pretty excited myself. I can't say I was ever very good at Starcraft, but I really enjoyed playing it, and checking out some of the videos and pictures they have on that site make me giddy, like waiting for the final (and horribly disappointing) episode of Heroes this season did. I mean, the way the Zerg swarmed over the Protoss defenses in the trailer gave me the heebie jeebies. Now THAT'S a quality game. XD
