In the market for a cell phone. But i don't know much about them really. Are the phones , calling plans about the same from company to company or are there alot of differences between them? I am not getting messages from wife and kids if they take a call and I may be missing out on some buisness. Can anyone help me fill in the blanks on them would be appreciated.

I guess it depends where you live and what you want to use your cell for. Personally, my cell is my primary phone. I text like a motherfucker and the person I speak to the most is my girl, who is with the same company as me. So in this case, my calls to and from her are free, so we save a bundle (although technically it is just part of the service charge). I also really really appreciate the MP3 feature on my cell. I love ringtones. My Alarm in the morning is You Know (Eminem, 50, etc) and my Ringtune is Dead Wrong (B.I.G.) So for 30$ a month (canadian) I have 1000 free text messages, 100 weekday minutes and 1000 anytime minutes. 2 lines, call forwarding, caller ID all that standard crap. I have no voice mail and I get FaceBook messages/pokes/etc sent to me in text message form. www.fido.com My provider This is my phone. My favourite cell of all time. www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=ca&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps1_1_2_1_1&zone=ps&lm=ps1_1&pid=10415&fid=29852&esi=trueIdk, I hope that helps some.

Ok. This may help a bit more. First, I think I know you. >.> You are disciplined, not a huge gossip freak and I dont think (not sure on this one) that you will let the kids borrow the cell if they dont already have one. So this means, I think >.>, no text messages, not much talking, just family and work. Depending on how much you use the cell and at what times, u want to pick ur plan accordingly. My favorite plan was weekends and evenings free with a certain amount of weekday minutes for like 25 bucks... But back then I just kept the phone off until 8PM EST. But things have changed and like I said it depends when u will be talking. Maybe a 1000 minutes anytime/day is best for you. Should be a similar price. So your going to need voice mail, call waiting, caller ID, call forwarding, most cells come with a cam which can come in handy if you take pics at work (I do sometimes, great documenting tool. "Bam bitch, look at what I did this year! Show me the money!")... What else... You may also want a phone with Bluetooth. That way you can talk hands/wire free. Just a wireless ear piece that connects via infrared sensors or w/e... You know what, I just thought of something. If you can find him, _Code is the expert. Im sure he still trolls here as a guest sometimes. If he doesnt, he has a lot of self control lol. If he doesnt come out of the wood works to advise you, you could always find him on the EE forums. I know Code knows cells because: edeasorphans.proboards107.com/index.cgi?board=mgeneral&action=display&thread=1134847226&page=1 My cell is nice, but im sure there is tons of crazier shit out there already >.> Im no expert and almost always had a crappy cell lol. Anyways, hope I helped some

Saturday morning I started drinking at around 11am at the Buffalo Airport. I got to Jacksonville Beach to my brother's place, and had a few White Russians he loaded up pretty good. We went out, started bar hopping. I was drinking Jack & Coke. Then I drank half my sister-in-law's margarita, and went back to Jack and Coke as the night went on... Next thing I know, I'm in the ocean about 30 feet from shore, battling huge waves...the remnants of Hurricane Barry. I was just diving into the waves, trying to remain standing. I remember getting knocked to the ground, fighting to stand back up, gasping for breath and then gearing up for the next wave... I wake up the next morning on my brothers couch in my boxers. I remember NOTHING that happened between 1am and 9am, except for the few minutes in the ocean I described above. Turns out that when we got to my brother's place, I got out of the car and bolted towards the ocean...with all my clothes on - my hat, wallet, my Blackberry phone, my Sony camera. Just ran right in. Damage report: Hat: gone Wallet: somehow I had the sense of mind to button my back pocket, the only thing that spared my wallet...those waters were rough Phone: gone Camera: was in a buttoned pocket, but obviously completely ruined Good thing I didn't bring my keys. I blacked out around 1AM and was essentially sleepwalking from that point on. So weird, nothing like that has ever happened to me. Scary at the same time. I guess the moral of the story is drink responsibly even if you're not driving. It was a $600+ mistake, and I suppose that if I had ran out any further into the ocean I could have easily drowned, given the rough waters and that I was pretty much unconscious. OK, back on topic - I use a Verizon Blackberry and absolutely love it. Picking up a replacement for the one I lost tomorrow, hopefully

Perhaps, more appropriately, Don't Drink and Dive.
That's rough dude, but glad you lived through the ordeal. I'm willing to wager there aren't any Baywatch-esque lifeguards with that little orange floaty thing running up and down the beach in slow motion at 1 AM.
Oh, and my wife and I use Verizon, as does pretty much everyone in our immediate families. I've got a Razr which, despite some slow loading when I forget to clean out my txts, works wonderfully. Been really happy with the service too.

All's well that ends well I guess...still waiting on my new phone though >< Might not be until next week now.

Drunk and 30 feet from shore in heavy waves is not a good combination. Sound like something I would do. I'm glad you lived to retell a damn funny story.

Holy shit: www.alcoholblackout.com/ I've never heard of this before, but it's pretty much what happened. Big difference between getting stupid drunk and blacked out. Glad my brother was around to keep an eye on me. - Alcohol blackouts, 'en bloc' or fragmentary, are a common consequence of heavy drinking.
- Research shows that people who experience fragmentary blackouts (FBs) are more likely to misremember drinking experiences after alcohol is consumed.
- These same individuals report strong positive expectations about future alcohol consumption.
- Researchers believe that some memory-impaired drinkers 'fill in the gaps' with information that conforms to an existing belief system, which may in turn lead to heavier drinking.
I think I need to ask some more questions about my great grandfather's alcohol problems...
