According to the new chart they posted, really, the exp system should have been that way for all time, but no matter. The biggest hits you take in wasted time are 55-65. Those are the biggest inequities. You should check it out if you get a change where the update details are at: www.playonline.com/updateus/050421er1gb1.html

Ok, whatever idiot put the chart in either doesnt know how to think, or wasnt using the real numbers. If you follow the chart, the amount of xp needed to reach 75 is exactly the same, the curve is just smoother.
That being said, I did like the hard example they gave. 8k instead of 10k is a good change imo. It doesnt make it easy, it just reduces it from insane to bearable.

the only thing that has changed is that now the exp is graduated instead of the same EXP Cap for a set of lvls. It was also posted that the exp lost in dying has been greatly reduced as well as the weakened time. With these changes it has been calculated that from lvl 51-75 220K exp was removed from that lvling span. I do not fully trust these figures because i just logged and my cap was only lowered 1.2K. I will believe SE's figures when i exp for the next couple weeks.

Okay people, let's think calculus for a moment, shall we? The area under the curve as it was before is greater than the area under the new curve... therefore, the total amount of exp required to get to 75 is reduced. The extra exp that had to be earned in the previous method is the area between the two curves. Anyone? Anyone?

i understand what u are saying corran and it is true tha amount is reduced but those who caps were reduced lost some exp that was gained and those between the affected lvls also have different figures for the amounts of exp needed/benefitted from the update. so in all technicallity yes the areas according to calculus indicate that there is less exp needed but that area entirely only applies to those who are lvl 50-51 as of now.

Ok, so its been years since Ive been in a math class, but looking at that graph, the endpoint is the same for both lines, so wouldnt that mean the amount of xp is the same? Or no, I donno, you kids in school tell me. In any case, I like the example they gave =)

Yes, the exp to get from 74 to 75 would be the same on the graph, but all the tnls from 50 to 74 are less than before. So, the cumulative exp necessary to reach 75 is less than before.
Also, the farther along you are from 50 to 75, the more of your life you pissed away (sorry Miruuk). If you are 50 now, you will benefit most with a gradient of how much you benefit from 50 to 74 (this is where brokensword/flyingsnow reep immense benefits).

Ok, I just realized why I was interpreting the graph wrong. I was thinking of the points on the line as being total xp earned, not amount of xp needed to reach next level. Old holdover from pen and paper rpging, my bad. =) I just wanna login and see how much I need to hit 65 damnit!! -t PS Hopefully in a day or 2 some bright idiot w/ entirely too much time on his hands will post the new xp/lvl needed for 50-75 on alla or ki. EDIT: lol, they already did, check out this link, looks like this info is a little off though. ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10&mid=111401811464355754
