Thanks gang! I appreciate all the comments you've left in this thread, it means a lot to me. You all are what makes this game shine. Unfortunately assholes like Smurf will always lurk over such brightness. I'll be ingame in a day or two or three or w/e so I can begin to dismantle all that I have worked for... We'll chat then, take care.

You're right dude, I made a very grave mistake. More importantly, today I made a mistake which weighs more heavily than any gil loss. I lost my dignity and self respect as well as the values that I once held dear in this game. Smurf is probably some dude's mule. How can I go about this game when I know this person is out there ridiculing every step I take? How is it possible for me to continue forth when one of the ultimate goals in this game for me was dropped like a bad habit? Idk what I'm getting at with this reply.... What I do know is its a crying shame this is the way it must end... Wait wait wait... Who cares what that guy thinks ... Isn't there someone out there too, that isn't some crook's mule, that respects you because you sent back his gil when he made an obvious error bidding on some of your stuff at AH? You made a mistake, yes. A common mistake for a righteous guy like you, which is to forget people aren't all like that. That guy isn't ridiculing you, he's too busy trying to find the next easy way to make gil he will sell. Sorry to say that, but I think you're past history to him. There won't be any ridiculing from anyone else. Only he knows, but he sure won't brag around, and we do, and we're truly sad and trying to help as much as we can. That leaves you. You have been the victim of a crook. I see no loss of dignity in that, even though you knew he could be one. It's his job to make believe he's innocent, and he must have been good at it. All I see is the best of us was robbed by some slimy thug. Shit like this calls for anger, but is no reason to loose self-respect. So it MUST not end. YOU CHOOSE to, my friend, because you decide to value your pride more than everything else you have here. I am sure you can come with some other way to react to this shit. Don't wait just a day or two to show up and sell your stuff. Sleep over it for a good week, get drunk every night, and come back when you realize your only real loss: 10 fucking million gils, that we'll help you rebuilt. |

life comes with hardships and heaven sent blessings. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't allow your friends to pick you up in your time of need (i.e. help you rebuild your money).
I know what it's like to want to delete a character or kill people in real life over online stuff.
Things like this pass, and we can only grow and learn from them. The one lesson to learn here? How much your friends care for you, and how much they want to show their appreciation for all you've done for them.
The wedding wasn't the same without you there. If you do head off into the sunset, keep in touch.

Although, I have never been a victum of this type of stuff on this game, but i have had my doubts about playing anymore. I wish there was something we could all say to change your mind. You have been there for most all of us in our time of need, through all the hard work to better ourselves in game and for some out of game. I think everyone here would give anythin possible to keep you playing and to help you out. I hope you change your mind and keep playing, but i do understand why you dont want to play no more.  /Sil |

Yah dude, i know what yah mean, i was also in tears when i decided i was gonna quit an havin to say bye to everyone in channel, even tho i knew i could still talk on the forums with everyone it still isnt the same

It is unfortunate that we sometimes place our own values and ideals on other people, and expect them to be returned to us. "Do Unto Others as We Would Have Done to Us", while such a very basic and simple concept, and so easy to follow seems to be so immeasurably hard to fathom. Final Fantasy XI forces people to rely on the wits, knowledge, kindness and honest of others. Sometimes you find yourself at the height of heaven, acheving everything you want and more because the good people of the game have helped you along. And sometimes you cry yourself to sleep because people can be so cold and heartless - I know the last one far too well. It's a game, but it's not. It's not like any other video game, where the monsters I vanquish are not always NPC's...and the people I help just go through their scriped code. There are real people on the other side of that monitor...people just like you who want to help others and be with their friends and have fun. Then, there are the others. Why let the people who have hurt you destroy all you have worked so hard for? I did that once....someone I cared about and trusted more than anything proved to me that gil was more important than a promise made....and I said goodbye to FFXI. But it nagged at me after a while - strangely. Some thoughtless ass MADE me choose when I was ready to quit....not when "I" was ready to quit. There are so many people here who are willing to give you gil just to make you happy....just to see you smile. I know I'd give all I have too...my measly half mil...but if it is enough to make you rethink leaving, I'd gladly do it. But it really shouldn't be about the gil, should it? Shouldn't it be more about the people here...your friends...who will always be at your side, ready to lend a hand.
Gil comes and gil goes. The friendships you make here are forever. Don't let the creul heartless people of the game overcloud your vision of the people who are surrounding you now with their hands extended in friendship, love, and care toward you.

Hey cmon now I havent been in the LS but like 2 months and i think your one of the coolest people in it and i look up to ya a lot cmon dont quit over some asshole you can get gil back anytime, but you cant get back memories you make with a great LS like EO so stay and make many more to come PLEASE ...

I hate to be repetitive, but then again I want to be, because I think the strength of our argument grows as the pleas for you to stay with us multiply. Ruuk, you have always been one of the most genuine people I've met in-game. I haven't been around as long as many of us, and I'm not on nearly as much as many either, but it's actually gotten to the point where I look forward to 'seeing' certain people online. I actually consider members of this linkshell to be my real friends--friends that, if we met tomorrow, I'd get along with and hang out with from Georgia to Canada--and I never thought I'd say that. My roommates and I constantly talk about how, despite not being the biggest or even most productive shell, we absolutely have the most sensible, genuine, caring members around. You are at the very core of that sentiment, and I really can't imagine what EO would be like without you.
Just the ramblings of a relative noob I know, but you should know the reach of your influence in this shell; it stretches from the seasoned veterans all the way down to those of us who have barely cracked the surface. The way you've made this game better for all of us far exceeds the harm one person can do, because we're all hear to absorb the pain with you. He's hurt all of us now, and I think that speaks volumes about you and EO.

Miruuk I don't want you to leave. I just told you in the game what I thought about you and I'm going to be really upset to see you go. It's just gil. I'll help any way I can, but I know that you're not really concerned with the money of it. I'd sell everything on my rdm if i could buy your aristocrat's tunic. Marine gloves, enfeebling torque, staves, +1 items, they're all yours if you'll take them.

I meant you could swallow your pride, admit you got taken, and move on. Its not about the money, its about your pride and your opinion about yourself. You made a mistake, so what? Running away from the mistake doesnt make it any better, you just wont be dealing with it. That being said, my response, and all the others; we are addressing the current issue. There is another though. You have been becoming less obsessed with this game over the past few months. Doubts about if you really want to "waste" your time on a game, etc. Quitting because some asshole took advantage of you is not a good reason. Quitting because you have finally become tired of the game... Well, I wish it was different, but thats something we will all come to at one point or another. -t |
