Dear Orphans,
I have given this a great deal of thought and I have decided to step down. I no longer wish to lead, I no longer wish to participate in the decision making processes of this LS. I will remain a member of EO. I leave the LS in the very capable hands of the remaining SH's.
Let it be known and very clear...That I DO NOT regret the decisons I have made in the past. Especially not my most recent decision of allowing HR to merge into EO. That was our best shot at becoming a HNM/Dynamis LS. Becoming a HNM/Dynamis LS is/was a desire of many of our members and SH's... That ship has sailed.
I will experience all that Final Fantasy XI has to offer, one way or another.
{Leader}{You can have this}

Perhaps the most difficult part of leading is making unpopular decisions for the ultimate good, and recovering from the fallout. I can't really speak to this situation because I don't know the dynamics.
To be successful in Sky you need a bunch of the following ~75ish jobs: RNG, BLM, NIN, WHM - how close were you to that with the HR merger?

The merger would of brought us alot closer then we were before. I was also very lucky to have made friends with Imohtep, who also got us quite a few new members. Ultimately, you are right. We would of still had to recruit many more. BUT it was a step in the right direction, gotta start somewhere...

Anyone who didn't like the merger or opening up recruitment should either leave EO and find a social LS or deal with it. Those people who didn't agree with the moves wouldn't have helped the shell move towards endgame anyways - it's obviously not why they're in EO.
You mentioned focusing on your own character, levelling BLM. Personally, I found FFXI much more enjoyable when I didn't have an LS to worry about. The highs aren't as high, but more importantly, the lows aren't anywhere close to being as low. Stress level goes wayyyyyyyy down, come and go as you please without worrying about what crap might have happened if you took a few days off. No more tell hell, stupid jackasses who whine that you can't kick because a card-holding member happens to like them for uknown reasons - blah! Don't miss it at all actually ;D

"A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don't necessarily want to go, but ought to be." - Rosalynn Carter
"The first task of a leader is to keep hope alive." - Joe Batten
"Leadership is getting someone to do what they don't want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve." - Toma Landry
Mark read these quotes and reflect upon those of us who respect your great ability to lead this LS and i believe that we can reconcile what has gone wrong and make it right again. Keep the hope alive for the sake of all of us.

What you are all missing, is that this is not just because of the latest bullshit. This is merely the last in a series of events that have built up for markus (and myself).
I cant speak for markus of course, but Im assuming that like me, to get him to want to resume his former position there would have to be radical changes to EO.

PS I think Lockejv understands the situation very well btw, and thanks for the info in the pm. Donno if I can make that step at this time.

First and Foremost i would like to say that EO has always been a shell that endorsed the "Family" concept. It is this that has allowed EO to be a succesful ls in areas that others have failed. Since when has it been such a problem to expand our family and allow others to be able to enjoy in the fun and enjoyment that we've had going for a 1 year+. Markus and Tempus i applaud you in taking a step in the way of making EO a ls that is able in doing HNM's and possibly god's in the future. It was a step that eventually the we were going to have to take whether everyone would approve of it or not. I for one came back to this game because EO is such a great ls filled with a group of caring and fun individuals. Why risk losing some of the people that you have become such good friends with just over the idea of such things as merging a couple of linkshells. I for one am supporting Tempus and Markus in wanting to help the linkshell become stronger and more unified in wanting to go and become one of the best linkshells on Titan. There is no other group of people that I would want to complete these things with.

wow, i've been gone apparently too much! what is going on? i'm at work right now so i don't really have the time to sit and read all of the posts, but i must say that i'm shocked and saddened by the events that seem to be unfolding. i was a bit worried about the merger, but in the end i was happy about it because that just made our ls that much more diverse - a large group of people who could do just about anything, not confined to just questing and leveling. i'm lost for words about markus stepping down. you have always been a good leader and i have appreciated all that you've done. however, i do understand what being a leader is like (been one most of my life throughout various organizations) and it is a tough job. if the stress is getting to the point where you just don't even want to bother with the game anymore, then your decision was the right one. nevertheless, many people are counting on your guidance, as we all have since EO has started for each of us. i remember the issue that i had with you when i first joined (pms was not so nice at that point), but i got over it, and eventually everyone will. i look up to you and your strength. should this be the ultimate path you decide to take, i support you and i hope that none of what has happened in the past will make you want to quit the game. people can be stupid (this is coming from someone who is almost completely ignorant about the situation at hand, so please be gentle with the flames, should you decide to flame me) and immature. don't let them ruin a good time. as i mentioned in kinya's goodbye post: IT IS JUST A GAME! people take things a bit too seriously and that's when real life comes to bite them in the ass just because they got too wrapped up in the game and not wrapped up enough in real life. don't let them get to you. don't let the stress caused by a silly game rule your life. trust me, i've let it happen to me - this is the reason why i'm on zoloft now. heh. it took a long time to realize that the game was the reason for my depression because the people on the game were just so horrible. so i quit for a while. let the addiction subside. changed servers. and then we found you guys. you all (markus and the sack holders) have always been so great at dolling out responsibilities and punishments (per se); if the leadership in this ls totally changes, the entire fate of EO will change.
anyways, what i'm really trying to say, markus, is that i'm sad to see you step down, but i understand the reasoning behind it. and like wishful said - you are the leader of EO and will remain so in my eyes.
