Actually SE announced that TOAU was the last expansion for FFXI. If I can find the interview I'll post it. SE however did announce they would update. I think that has more to do with how much time has passed. WoW has alot of staying power, I can't take that from it, but FF has always been a difficult game for a select few; doesn't have quite the staying power a game that will level you 1-30 in 2 hours does; sadly.
Personally I can't wait for the crowd to die down even more, then Server condensations ^^

Edit: I LOL'ed as runescape doing good. My little bro plays that when he cant play this... how can you compare a free game to a monthly one? |

Nope..as far as expansions FFXI is dead. Updates will continue as needed. Not to mention they are staggering the TOAU updates such as chocobo racing and the Collisseum stuff. The server population has been down until the last update for merit abilities and spells. So maybe a little life was brought back. We will see.

if you gotta take some time out for yourself, to take care of yourself then thats the way to do it. But honestly id like to see you and fight alongside you sooner that what it would take to complete your "to-do list". Sometimes you need to take a break to put back into perspective what it is thats important to you.
