I was feeling nostalgic today. I'm glad I got to read these stories. Brings back fond memories. I'd love to give FFXIV a try. Even folks in my RL seem to speak highly about it. <3 to me EO family, past, present and future.

The specifics of Pogo leading to EO being made:
My brother (not Mark, Felucca) was talking about weed in a positive manner and Pogo went off on him as if weed had killed a family member of his. Insisted that he stop talking about it and eventually broke his pearl.
Krazi, an amateur of the ganja if I'm not mistaken as well as free speech, then quit right after. Miruuk was Krazi's roommate and ultimately followed him. Mark and I were Fel's brothers.. Koga was my guildmaster in UO and since you could have several pearls, lots of people from ED would end up having a pearl to EO and wearing it with varying frequency as a way to be able to stay in touch.

it's crazy that I can remember this moment in a video game so vividly lol. That we can all die and lose hours' worth of xp and just be laughing about it lol, perfect metaphor for what EO was/is.

Ughhhhh... thank god there is no exp loss in XIV! I'm not sure I'd have the patience to deal with it, as much as I die during raids these days. Being a healer SUCKS! Beren - let me know if you do decide to check it out. I'm on Gilgamesh, and play a bunch

Jonathan I know right, I'll randomly think of the stupid stuff we used to do in that game together that made it feel as thoughwe were really just a bunch of friends hanging out 'irl' and being silly. I miss those days!
I'm on Adamantoise on FFXIV with a Bard, Summoner (I have no idea how to play the Scholar), and Ninja at 50... I've only recently gotten into endgame content. To be perfectly honest I think doing the endgame content in XI so many years ago scarred me and I've pretty much avoided it. If anyone is on that server I'm Oraiste Artemis, and if you haven't picked it up there is a 15-day free trial. It's pretty different from XI but hey, there are a lot of improvements... a lot!

I miss you nerds. <3 Hi Shalyn - been awhile! Hilarious pic. I was just thinking yesterday how pulling Dynamis was fun, but I missed out on all the chat jokes, come here today and this is what I see. I'm playing XI again, cleaning up some loose ends (soloing faffy, nidhogg, etc.) and upgrading AF armor to level 119 stats. It's a lot of fun playing in god-mode.

I do play FFXIV now on the Zalera server. I found me a fantastic FC and I'm WHM named Beren Camlost. I miss you guys and think of you ALL THE TIME. If anyone wants to start playing or come over to my server, it is small and you'll already have a home that does casual end game content and helps new players.

And there you have it, from Kevorkean's vision of a FFXI PVP LS to the forming of EO: the rise and fall of Eternal Darkness. I remember ED had that rule to join where you had to have 3 people approve you and I got in my randomly sending tells to people on the forums to post in my thread haha. ED was fun times. They were my first "big guild" in any type of MMO.

I wondered about EO last night and decided to check back. It's amazing to see a thread like this. This board outlasted the Titan server we all started on.
EO was really the place on FFXI that felt most like home to me. I did leave at one point, quickly got bored and soon after quit FFXI for a few years. The truth is when I left, it sucked without that guild.
I did find a few other social LS to play in when I returned, but it wasn't nearly the same, and wow the people I knew outside of EO got very greedy/selfish when I came back. Former "friends" (not in EO) would fight with me over item drops for ZNM when I asked them for help. I played some of the new content, quit to finish my master's degree, and then would come back a few years later.
Locke did direct me to a LS on Phoenix that was ok, but I can't remember it's name.
I did get my Blue Mage to 99 and I learned all but a handful of spells. That was a lot of fun, the game had completely changed from when I was apart of EO.
I would still probably play now, but honestly, I would only get in a couple of hours a week (or month). Subscription fee isn't worth it for me at this point.
I really enjoyed FFXI, I haven't seen another game with the subjob option, and that was a big point for me. Although I wasn't a big fan of the difficulty of CoP when it came out, years later they would lower the difficulty quite a bit.
I probably will not have an experience such as EO again. I am married with 2 kids now, so my time to play video games is pretty much non-existant. I play some PS3/PS4 games occasionally, but I don't have the time for a MMORPG.
So thank you all for the experiences we had 10 years ago =)
P.S. (anyone have Markus's email?) I see he's been inactive on the board for a long time, would like to send him a thank you.
