I wondered about EO last night and decided to check back. It's amazing to see a thread like this. This board outlasted the Titan server we all started on.
EO was really the place on FFXI that felt most like home to me. I did leave at one point, quickly got bored and soon after quit FFXI for a few years. The truth is when I left, it sucked without that guild.
I did find a few other social LS to play in when I returned, but it wasn't nearly the same, and wow the people I knew outside of EO got very greedy/selfish when I came back. Former "friends" (not in EO) would fight with me over item drops for ZNM when I asked them for help. I played some of the new content, quit to finish my master's degree, and then would come back a few years later.
Locke did direct me to a LS on Phoenix that was ok, but I can't remember it's name.
I did get my Blue Mage to 99 and I learned all but a handful of spells. That was a lot of fun, the game had completely changed from when I was apart of EO.
I would still probably play now, but honestly, I would only get in a couple of hours a week (or month). Subscription fee isn't worth it for me at this point.
I really enjoyed FFXI, I haven't seen another game with the subjob option, and that was a big point for me. Although I wasn't a big fan of the difficulty of CoP when it came out, years later they would lower the difficulty quite a bit.
I probably will not have an experience such as EO again. I am married with 2 kids now, so my time to play video games is pretty much non-existant. I play some PS3/PS4 games occasionally, but I don't have the time for a MMORPG.
So thank you all for the experiences we had 10 years ago =)
P.S. (anyone have Markus's email?) I see he's been inactive on the board for a long time, would like to send him a thank you.

and Paladin have phalanx from what I heard!!! It is! So the reason for the improvements was the removal of a very crappy developer huh? Apparently he isn't satisfied with 1/2 the servers shut down and wants them all shut down? Well I guess I'll enjoy the fun version of this game while it lasts. I'll never play FFXIV, I'm not going through Tanka's crap again, nor the rest of the SE development team. Seriously, most MMO's take 1-2 years to get a majority of the bugs out... Tanka should really be fired.

Compared to what it was, FFXI has been officially fixed. While some things will actually be missed.... here's a brief list of updates that have happened over the years:
1) Soloing to level up is now possible. EP mobs now give 100xp instead of 12-25 xp. 2) Hitting the maximum level now takes about 1 month of casual play. You can do it faster if you want. 3) There is a Teleport to sky available from various craigs after completing a quest. 4) Many of the Kings became forced pops. 5) Level Sync is now possible. You can play with lower level friends and not have to get low level gear, your high level gear is scaled appropriately. 6) The CoP level caps were supposedly removed... so it wasn't the biggest nightmare in the world to play. 7) The level cap was actually raised from 75 to 99. 8) The price of Dynamis was dropped from 1 million to 50k. 9) LFP for hours is gone do to soloing being available.
... there were actually a bunch of other things updated and added, but these things really stuck out.
In the last few weeks I actually leveled DNC/BLU/BST/DRK/RDM to 30 without a whole lot of effort or time.
I'll be playing this for a while, right now I'm only playing really late at night. Feel free to look me up if your on. Since Titan was merged with Pheonix I'm now "Bridgerbot" and not "bridger".

There is not going to be a tiered payment plan which gives you access to certain sites. That idea is so outright opposed by the people congressmen, etc, that it won't happen.
Do not put to much stock into some hippy's "inside source".

So there are a couple of issues.
Issue 1)
Tiered Service.
Paying more to access more sites. The video talks about tiered service. That is actually a Network Neutrality issue. However, there is a more pressing matter to Network Neutrality, which I will attempt to describe below.
Issue 2)
Limiting bandwidth without tiered service.
Certain ISP companies pay for the physical infrastructure, wires, fiber optics etc. Once the infrastructure is in place, other companies can use it without having to have paid to put the infrastructure in place. For example, in the last 10 years, Qwest has physically installed new phone lines so that DSL users can purchase Qwest's DSL product. The original companies which actually invested in the infrastructure wanted bandwidth limited to those companies that made no investment. Companies such as Qwest want to limit broadband usage of those companies which did not physically install new telephone lines.
That is the problem as far as I understand it. If someone who really knows what they are talking about has any additional input, please correct me if my understanding of the problem is not correct.
That is the bandwidth limitation argument which "Net Neutrality" generally refers to.

This is one of the very few issues that has just confused the crap out of me.
However Locke's summary is correct, he is correct in saying that it is more about limiting bandwidth to certain sites. It also happens that issues such as this gain an assload of public support almost instantly.
I think this video was an attempt to simplify the situation so it was understandable, but in doing so made a lot of "simplifications" which aren't correct.
There will be riots in the streets before it gets too out of control.

Actually, that's right, I remember reading one of the complaints being that EVERYTHING was instanced. They have responded to that in the GW2, they are making less things instanced. I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that they tried instancing so they didn't have complaints about camping. You can't beat running into new people, and that feature does need to be in an MMORPG, especially when you have bitten off more than you can chew and end up running for your life shouting "OH ? OH ? SAVE ME SAVE ME!

Has anyone played Guild Wars? www.gameogre.com/topmmorpgs.htmIt is rated as being a very good MMORPG. I haven't played it yet, just read a lot about it. Some of the attractive features are: *Instancing *Being able to hire a computerized jobs to level up/adventure with. *Free Online Play *Designed to not take a year to hit max level. *Good graphics My gf is interested in playing this, and she doesn't seem interested in playing WoW because she doesn't like how the graphics look, so I'm looking into this game. The only downfall I've seen with this game is that there is NO Auction House. That's a pretty big down point, because people end up shouting in towns what they want to sell. The sequel may have an Auction House, there is a lot of demand for it. Other than that it looks pretty good, and the sequel looks even better. Has anyone played this game? Are there any thoughts on it?

its not all smooth sailing >.> Goosegg for the night. Good job everyone. Especially Bridger, I know he saved some lives with the DRG NM pull. very good job. LoL. So I may have caused a wipe or two this run, this is my first time actually being involved in pulling NMs since I spent all last Xarcboard disconnected. The Dragoon pull was tough, had to pull out the old 2hr on that one.

I think we've all been there, running around with a dagger which should have been dropped 53 levels ago. What? Are you really going to tell me that at 75 I can no longer wear my lvl 42 AF Honor Sword? Come on now, that's onRy 33 levels behind. It's not THAT outdated.

Blizzard probably won't announce a release date for sometime, and they are terrible about meeting those dates when it comes to games like this, but at least you know that the final copy has been polished off 100x and is really frickin spiffy!
