Ahahaahahahaaha. That is so great, I have only studied Latin, but was able to struggle my way through French to understand the context w/o the subtitles.
After all the shots that have been taken at the American education system.......
Actually it's funny, because science isn't big in a lot of countries where you think it would be, such as Japan.
My college roommate and I were both Americans studying physics. He married a Japanese woman. When they first started dating she thought things like
stars are just shiney stones in the sky static electricity can hurt you and kill you in the winter, so only take staticy clothes off in the light and you'll be ok she also thought things like ghosts were real
Her father was a CEO of a pretty big company in Japan and he sent his daughter to the U.S. as an exchange student. She is a really sweet and nice person, but my jaw hit the floor at some of the things she told us.
So yes, when you hear that Americans test lower than the rest of the world....... keep in mind that the tests results are vastly scewed. Americans actually give these tests to everyone, while a lot of other countries only give it to students that specialize in that particular area.
The American education system has plenty of problems, and is widely criticized internationally, but it's hilarious that a lot of the countries that have us "beat" nationally have assloads of citizens publically state such things as "the sun revolves around the earth".

I can't accept that as real. I think that either:
1. It's a more difficult question improperly subtitled as an easy one to make a joke 2. The audience was fucking with him for asking for help (that's giving any audience way too much credit probably)

I am willing to accept the argument that 56% of the audience decided to knowingly give him the wrong answer and is just very very mean.
Yes it is! One person's argument in the comments is that "gravitates" is a very uncommon French word and that "Which of the following gravitates around the Earth": is very confusing and that the French audience had no way of deducing "gravitates". Also I think the common word for gravity is pesanteur.
I'm by no means fluent in french and the question is pretty simple.
