Media turning it into another steroid circus. Allegedly the 7 year old was taking HGH. I don't think steroids had anything to do with the murder / suicide. But steroids are a problem in WWE, as is the lifestyle the wrestlers are forced to lead if they want to keep making money. Vince McMahon drives them into the ground.

But steroids are a problem in WWE, as is the lifestyle the wrestlers are forced to lead if they want to keep making money. Vince McMahon drives them into the ground. If you read up on any of the nfl's recent problem, it's coming to light that the multiple concussions lead to damage in the brain causing depression. I'm sure Benoit's had his share of concussions, what doing a flying headbutt from 20' in the air and such. Adding any chemical imbalance to that will just make it worse. And yeah, if they want to make it in wwe, they have to take steroids. If you want to make it in the modeling world, you have to have an eating disorder. If you wanted to make it in EO, you had to sleep with Markus. They knew it going in, they know it right now. You can hardly blame McMahon, since he's taken as much as they have.

Vince. Wtf man... His main concern is the media hysteria surrounding the potential involvement of steroids. He is going around saying that he had no way of knowing that Benoit was or would become the monster that he died as. Ok. It is true, what he did was really fucked up. Offing your wife, then son, then yourself... But you don't have to say it like that, no one else was until Vince did. It lacks taste or class or something. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth even though I agree he clearly had a lot of problems and was clearly a disturbed/troubled individual.
Stress factors in Benoits life.
-His wife had filed for divorce a while back then changed her mind. -She had a restraining order on him as well at one point. -(career)I am pretty sure that Chris was heavily involved with one of the Championship belt dramas these days or past months and he was basically going to be taken out of the picture. So his career was at an all time high and on its way back down. -Most important fact I think... His son was ill, I dont know the exact details pardon my ignorance, but it was a form of retardation/autism... -Death of Eddie Guerrero (and other family, friends in the industry)
Other stress factors: -Living your entire life on the road, non stop travelling. Heading home between shows to be with your family for 4 hours and then get back on a plane to do a house show. -Countless injuries -Whatever stress factors all of us get from day to day.
->>Possible<< use/abuse of steroids and/or prescription drugs; whose effects are unknown on ones mental health.
Idk, imo clearly not the life for just anyone at all. 500k/year is alot of money. But there are alot of people out there who get paid more for doing alot less and they are in similar industries; entertainment or sports. So pick your poison, quite frankly I think a number of the things above could push me over the edge...
I feel bad for all of them.

The Hart family has a vendetta against Vince because of Owen. They've lightened up in recent years because they realize they can make money off Vince (i.e. Bret doing DVD's and stuff), but I'd hardly take Bruce Hart's words as gospel.

I liked the opening to this article: This might be hard for non-wrestling fans to understand, but to those who loved Chris Benoit's work, his grisly double-killing and suicide was as shocking as if Peyton Manning or Tim Duncan or Derek Jeter had committed the same acts. He was that good at what he did and that respected by fans and peers for doing everything the right way. As such, accounts of the way he strangled his wife, smothered his child and hanged himself are as disturbing as any I've encountered. They raise countless questions about drugs, the vagaries of the mind and our propensity for glorifying risk. They offer answers to none of them. First off, shame on all the news hosts who've spent the past few days screaming "'roid rage," as if there's ever a simple explanation when a man kills his family and himself. The sad episode does raise questions about links between steroid use, the frenetic lifestyle of wrestlers and mental instability. Benoit's employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, has tried to steer coverage away from his possible steroid use (authorities found prescribed anabolic steroids while searching his home). The deliberate nature of his actions suggested anything but a rage, the company said in a news release. Chairman Vince McMahon reiterated that position on NBC's Today show, noting that Benoit tested negative for drug use in April. www.baltimoresun.com/sports/bal-sp.othervoices30jun30,0,1886910.story?page=1&coll=bal-sports-more

Jericho on some news show: Then Chris Jericho joined the show and asked how it has hit him. "It's almost a tale of two cities, a tale of two people. There was the Chris Benoit that had these horrendous acts of extreme psychopathic lunacy in the last days of his life. Then there's the Benoit I myself travelled with, lived with, said I love you to on many occasions; he was my mentor, one of my best friends, and was a brother to me in so many ways. The 15 years I knew him and the two days he did these horrible horrible acts, it's hard to kind of discern the two. That's why we have to find out what would make a mild-mannered, polite, influential tremendous person and performer to do such things. Is steroids a reasons? I think it goes much deeper than that. I think we're seeing a man with some severe psychological, troubled issuese and held them in for far too long and they combined to cause him to snap in such a horrible way." Wrestler Benoit’s behavior may be attributed to `date-rape drug’ GHB (description of GHB withdrawal below) “There’s sweating, your blood pressure rises in days one and two,” Porrata says. “Then the psychosis starts. Days four, five and six are the worst. You hallucinate and there can often be violence accompanied with it. By day 11, the head starts to clear, but you are left with an intense depression.” Says Porrata: “We try to put things in our own terms, `Well, I couldn’t kill my own child.’ Yeah, but if you were on GHB or were psychotic, a mental illness or (something) drug-induced, it’s not a rational act. It doesn’t excuse it, but you can’t explain it on your own moral values.” www.clarionledger.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070630/NEWS/70630015I thought this tasteful ESPN article was interesting as well sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=2922166
