This game is getting lots of hype. Could it be something for us off-liners to do while we wait for XIV? What do you guys think?.
I'm getting tired of replaying all my old shcool rpgs already.

It was getting lots of hype...but as of lately I haven't heard much at all about it. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

That was a pretty sic trailer. I'm guessing it's a console game. Available on all 3 major systems.
I wonder... Has EA ever made another MMO since UO? UO had one of the best housing/crafting and even skill systems of any MMO imo...

Yeah the trailer was nice... I'll have to see gameplay footage before I judge it though. Sometimes games have amazing trailers and then the game itself looks like crap, or has a crappy combat system or something.

From the in game vids I saw you are correct as far as I can tell. The in game gfx come nowhere close to the cgi sequences.
However... From the vids I saw the dialog seems pretty funny in a dark comedy kind of way which I think will be the main reason why I buy this.

Reviews are out and quite a few people seem to be very pleased with this game. Voice acting is good for the most part, the fighting is fun, the char/class system is fun, the game is VERY long 150+ hrs so there is tons and tons to do, replay value through the roof on top of that.
Took a look at the graphics and the PC version kills the console versions, 360 version seems to be the 2nd best. Ps3 version looks... bleh. PC version also has a slightly different battle system and is harder than the console versions.

I was thinking of renting it but then I realized it'd be a waste b/c I'd probably want to buy it lol. Dono if I could power through 150+ hours of gameplay in a week either.

I'll try and post a full review tomorrow ish as Jon currently owns it (almost said I there lol).
It's interesting, the graphics -are- almost as good as the cutscenes. It's a beautiful game. But I'm still rather early in the game so I don't want to comment too much just yet.

It's a fantastic game, unnecessarily marred by a few very sketchy (and extremely Electronic Arts) financial decisions.
The gameplay is basically a modern evolution of everything you loved about Baldur's Gate II, with even more character depth, and all of the presentation / cinematic experience Bioware gained from Mass Effect.

That's a pretty decent description. It's not an ugly game, but the buffer effects give the entire game kind of a dated look.
On the other hand: "Premium" quests that are tied directly into the story line... available on day one. Both of the modules available were originally slated to be included with the game for free. Want to know where those story hooks go? That'll be $10. Those who buy the game at retail (as opposed to used,) get the cheaper of the two modules for "free." Dick move on their part.

PC version has very good gfx. PS3/360 both have issues due to hardware limitations. From what I saw ps3 was the worst of the 3.
DLC is part of the new gaming franchise, every game worth playing is going to have some sort of DLC to extend the experience and net additional revenue for the companies that made them. If DLC didnt exist those extra quests might not have even existed (or been free, but I'm leaning towards them not having the time to bother with extra extra stuff).

I strongly disagree with your opinions regarding DLC, but have no desire to derail the topic... so I'll leave that to a separate thread.
The bottom line here is that the game itself is really quite good. Personally, being charged extra to get the 'full experience' left a bitter taste in my mouth, but the core game is good enough to recommend it despite that.

1) DLC is meant to extend the gaming experience, even moreso with the good games. 2) DLC is meant to provide additional revenue for video game companies so that there is higher production values and quality to the games they create in the future. 3) If DLC content didnt exist, a great deal of the new content wouldnt have existed either. While in the case of DAO, yes if they were originally inteded to be part of the game that is a dick move. In the case of many many other games DLC has added brand new content in that video game world. A lot of developers have to crunch in as much as they can in the time given before release. Some of the stuff they wanted in the game doesnt make the cut due to time restrictions, thus DLC gives them the ability to put it in at a later date.
For you to strongly disagree with me you'd have to not agree with a single point I made, I dont see how you could think that...
